Workiva is seeking a strategic, results-driven Director of Competitive Intelligence and Corporate Development to lead efforts in analyzing the competitive landscape, identifying growth opportunities, and driving corporate development initiatives. This role is key to shaping our strategy and ensuring continued success in the dynamic SaaS market. The ideal candidate has a blend of technical and business expertise, with experience in SaaS, preferably in the business process areas supporting accounting, finance, audit, risk, or sustainability functions.

The Director will collaborate with product, marketing, partner, and sales teams to develop Workiva's next-generation competitive intelligence program. Your leadership will shape strategy, go-to-market efforts, and corporate development, contributing to long-term growth.

This role partners with executives and functional leaders to guide  the firm's future with mergers and acquisition (M&A) and value creation. You'll lead due diligence and work closely with commercial and functional teams to influence M&A strategy.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive competitive intelligence program to monitor and analyze the competitive landscape, including market trends, product launches, pricing strategies, and go-to-market tactics

  • Identify potential threats and opportunities for the company and provide actionable insights to inform product development, sales, and marketing strategies

  • Build and maintain a robust competitive intelligence platform and repository of information

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and effective communication of competitive intelligence

  • Engage in strategy and corporate development processes to assess and evaluate new markets and M&A targets

  • Identify potential acquisition targets and partnerships that align with the company’s strategic goals

  • Conduct due diligence on potential targets, including financial analysis, market assessment, and integration planning

  • Lead the negotiation and execution of mergers, acquisitions, and partnerships

  • Analyzes market data to identify trends and opportunities, develop strategic direction from market information, and create compelling market analysis presentations

  • Conduct make-versus-buy analysis from a partnership/merger/acquisition perspective

What You’ll Need 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Undergraduate Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field

  • 10+ years of progressive responsibility in competitive/market intelligence, corporate development, or related fields

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven track record in competitive intelligence and corporate development within the SaaS industry

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to translate data into actionable insights

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Self-starter with low ego, high humility, high emotional intelligence and a demonstrated ability to collaborate at all levels of the organization

  • Strong propensity for action, results and continuous improvement

  • Ability to work successfully in a high-energy, fast paced, rapidly changing environment

  • Demonstrated ability to handle ambiguity, change and adapt to new priorities, as well as lead others to accomplish new goals as needed to support the business

  • Bachelor's degree required, MBA or advanced degree preferred

Travel Requirements & Working Conditions

  • 25% travel

  • Reliable internet access for any period of time working remotely and not in a Workiva office

How You’ll Be Rewarded

✅ Salary range in the US: $147,000.00 - $250,000.00

✅ A discretionary bonus typically paid annually

✅ Restricted Stock Units granted at time of hire

✅ 401(k) match and comprehensive employee benefits package

The salary range represents the low and high end of the salary range for this job in the US. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience and other relevant factors.
