THE ROLE

This role is focused on the systems and processes our analytics and reporting environments will run and scale on at Zoomo. This includes exposure to architectural decisions for expanding and optimising our data warehouse and related tools & processes, working with a team of business-focused analysts and data scientists, as well as optimising data flow and providing technical input to building out data health monitoring. Work with both our Analytics team as well as cross-functional stakeholders to help build our data warehouse and associated ELT. We are putting significant investment into ramping up our data and analytics function, and you will have the opportunity to design and build the core components of this system, which will scale as the company grows.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, security, etc.
  • Build processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency and workload management (DWH is Google BigQuery)
  • Work with stakeholders including the Engineering, Product, Data and Finance teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs
  • Work with data and analytics experts to strive for greater functionality in our data systems

Requirements

YOU

Are an experienced engineer and data wrangler who enjoys optimising data systems and building them from the ground up. As an experienced Data Engineer, you will work alongside our engineers, data analysts and data scientists on data initiatives. You must be self-directed and comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams, systems and products, and be excited by the prospect of optimising and/or re-designing our company’s data architecture and applications running on it to support our next generation of products and data initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases
  • Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Strong analytic skills related to working with unstructured datasets
  • A successful history of manipulating, processing and extracting value from large, disconnected datasets
  • Working knowledge of message queuing, stream processing, and highly scalable data stores
  • Strong project management and organizational supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment
  • Relevant software/tools experience (maybe not possible to be an expert in all of these areas, but should be an expert in some, particularly SQL, with familiarity in most):
    • Relational SQL and NoSQL databases, e.g. BigQuery
    • Data pipeline and workflow management tools: Azkaban, Luigi, Airflow, etc.
    • GCP ecosystem
    • Data systems architecture
