About This Opportunity

GEA is looking for an experienced Process Engineer to join the Service Projects execution team either remotely or at our Hudson WI or Columbia MD locations with a focus on implementing process improvements, upgrades, and add-ons. The projects may be comprised of several technologies including automation/controls, beverage processing (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), food/dairy processing, aseptic and non-aseptic processing solutions. This opportunity is open to incumbents working at either GEA’s Columbia MD or Hudson WI office locations.  If you are customer focused, detail oriented and would enjoy participating as a team member executing small to medium sized projects, GEA would like to discuss this opportunity with you.

The tasks and responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned as required.

  • Participates in all phases of a project from initial customer meetings through pre-award sales support, cost estimation, proposal generation, engineering, commissioning and start up.

  • Responsible for specific technical areas of the project, specifying technical solutions and equipment which meet customer expectations/specifications.

  • Responsible for the phases, activities and deliverables associated with the project life cycle ensuring adherence to the design standards and optimization of engineering designs to meet customer specifications according to the contract within time constraints and the project budget.

  • Proactively anticipates technical, schedule, execution or commercial problems and exercises priority judgments to meet project commitments.

  • Responsible for documenting and keeping accurate records of customer meetings, discussions and correspondence as well as maintaining well-organized technical files. This includes generating outgoing deliverables, document transmittals, version control, tracking incoming customer approvals, and filing.

  • Be familiar and ensure compliance with government regulations, such as safety standards, environmental regulations, and industry standards such as sanitary requirements which can include USDA/3A.

  • Solid understanding of technical process and equipment design within the food industry.

  • Development of Process Flow Diagrams as required.

  • Evaluates and approves design changes, specifications, and drawings releases.

  • Provides technical support through troubleshooting matters related to equipment/system performance and process to resolve customer concerns.

  • Plan and implement tasks such as test procedures and commissioning plans. Develops systematic approach to commissioning and customer site acceptance plans based on contractual requirements.

  • Prepares O&M manuals

  • May assist Procurement as appropriate in vendor selection, technical bid evaluation, and management.

  • Collaboratively work with the team to develop project plans, cost estimates and execution plans. Assist in generating schedules to accomplish project/program milestones.

  • Actively support the team in identification and justification of scope changes, while assisting in preparation of subsequent cost/schedule impact estimates and change orders to be submitted to the customer

  • Provide support in other department initiatives and projects as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Your Profile / Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Engineering – Mechanical, Chemical, Food Science or related major preferred with entry level up to 7 years of experience OR no degree with 5-10 years of experience.
  • Must possess good English language communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Must have good communication skills, proven ability to articulate ideas, give feedback, resolve conflicts, and improve areas where needed in an independent and team setting environment.  
  • Experience with MS Office software.
  • Pro-activity, personal drive, decisiveness, commercial / business acumen, communication skills, excellent teamwork skills, organizational competency, and the ability to prioritize
  • Must be willing to travel. (Approximately 30% of the time).
