Lygos develops novel microbial technologies for the fermentative production of commodity and specialty chemicals. Lygos identifies expensive, environmentally hazardous, and harmful processes used today and develops safe, renewable routes to the same products to enable a more sustainable future. Lygos is seeking to hire a skilled Research Associate to support its strain screening needs to identify new microbial strains with desired phenotypes for the production of bio-based molecules.

Position Description

The successful applicant will work as part of a collaborative team to engineer microbial strains for improved production of bio-based chemicals. The position will involve the assessment of strain performance in a wide range of small-scale screens, the development and application of assays to support new product programs, and analysis of large datasets generated from these screens.

Responsibilities

  • Work within the Biology team to test new strain engineering hypotheses efficiently and accurately.
  • Plan and execute on small scale screens on a regular cadence with a high degree of technical excellence.
  • Perform data analysis and engage in technical discussions and research planning.
  • Develop new analytical assays and associated protocols for in-house use.

Additional Responsibilities

The candidate will work under the supervision of and report to strain engineering scientists. The candidate will also be expected to work collaboratively with Lygos’ fermentation, downstream processing, and analytical departments. The Lygos team works closely with all employees to support career development and facilitate the learning of new skill sets.
