  • Summer Internships: Monday, May 19, 2025 (40/hours per week max)

We are seeking a motivated MBA or other graduate-level student interested in joining our ESG & Public Affairs team as an intern in summer 2025. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to our sustainability initiatives, engage stakeholders, navigate an evolving regulatory environment, and gain hands-on experience in a dynamic corporate environment. The ideal candidate possesses strong leadership skills, the ability to take initiative, excellent research and writing skills, and is a pro-active collaborator and communicator. The internship can be in-person or hybrid for a student located near our Ames, IA office or remote.

What You'll Do

  • ESG Research: Conduct research on industry best practices, emerging ESG trends and reporting frameworks to provide insights and recommendations to influence Workiva’s overall ESG strategy and programs
  • Policy Research: Conduct research on legislative and regulatory issues (CSRD, SEC, etc) relevant to Workiva and our customers. This involves monitoring proposed legislation, analyzing its potential impact, and summarizing findings for internal stakeholders
  • Monitoring and Analysis: Monitoring media coverage, legislative developments, and public opinion related to ESG regulations and reporting. This involves summarizing relevant news articles, tracking key metrics, and providing updates to the public affairs team
  • Public Affairs and Stakeholder Engagement: Assist in engaging with internal and external stakeholders, collaborating with internal teams, such as legal, communications, and public sector sales, to support the development of a cohesive public affairs strategy
  • Communication Assistance: Support the development and distribution of communications materials related to ESG and public affairs initiatives. This may involve drafting press releases, social media content, Connect articles, and website updates

What You'll Need

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in first year of an MBA program or similar graduate program or have experience in the workfield and are interested in upskill into Environment, Social, and Governance
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, finance or accounting. Minor or certifications in environmental, social, and governance, public policy, communication corporate social responsibility, sustainability or related field, a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years project management or reporting experience within a large or midsize, preferably global, organization; increased in job responsibilities over the year over year
  • 2+ years experience with corporate reporting and writing
  • Exposure to some of the ESG reporting frameworks and third-party investor ratings: Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), Taskforce on Climate Financial Disclosures (TCFD), UN Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs), DJSI, SASB, CDP, MSCI, ISS, EcoVadis, and Sustainalytics
  • Experience facilitating group process and collaboration for reporting or risk
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to research, analyze, and succinctly report data
  • Workiva platform or project management certification, a plus

Travel Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Reliable internet access for any period of time working remotely, not in a Workiva office
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States and not require sponsorship now or in the future
