Job Description

ABOUT US

Inspire is a clean energy technology company on a mission to transform the way consumers access clean energy and to accelerate the world’s transition to a net-zero carbon future.

We provide our customers with access to renewable energy from wind, solar, and hydro powered sources without service interruptions or costly installations at a flat, predictable monthly rate. For every year that a customer spends with Inspire Clean Energy, they have a greater impact on climate change than 10 years of strict recycling.

Our rapidly growing team of mission-driven, climate enthusiasts is passionate, innovative and committed to a better future for the planet.

POSITION SUMMARY

As a Data Product Manager on Inspire’s Technology team, your work will define how decisions are made, separate the incremental from the exponential opportunities for growth, drive cutting-edge analysis and modeling in a modern data stack, and ensure that we are able to continuously optimize and scale our core business offerings and processes -- empowering our customers to reduce their carbon footprint and furthering Inspire's mission to accelerate the world’s transition to a net-zero carbon future.

Data is at the center of our clean energy platform -- it's how we understand our customers, monitor and improve our acquisition and retention, track and forecast costs and revenues, and make decisions about growth, optimization and strategy.

In this role, you'll get hands-on with data to quantify opportunities, work closely with business leaders to understand needs, and collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams on end-to-end solutions from data collection to metric presentation. You'll be responsible for discovery and analysis of problems or potential improvements, translating those into requirements and plans, prioritizing within resource and time constraints, and overseeing implementation in an agile development process to deliver results that measurably improve our growth, value creation, and member experience.

THE DATA PRODUCT MANAGER HAS FIVE MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Hire and lead a team of data analysts to

  • Own end-to-end data processes and features that will be used to make important decisions in the execution of our business strategy.
  • Partner closely with Commercial Operations, Finance, and Analytics leaders to understand their objectives, pains, and ideas in order to define the business problems we need to solve, and help with the prioritization of these business problems.
  • Deliver value for various business functions, enabling them to derive insights from data that drive agile decision making at scale.
  • Own initiatives end-to-end, including leading discovery, writing specs, driving cross-functional execution, making thoughtful product decisions along the way, and sharing insights and outcomes throughout the company.
  • Drive execution in collaboration with Engineering and Data Science peers in the creation of data services that will support our various data processes.

SOME YEAR 1 DELIVERABLES

  • Discover, prioritize, and execute upon opportunities to turn our data assets into products and models that can materially impact the performance of our business.
  • Design processes for various business operations including the data services that enable or automate decision making.
  • Deliver prototype datasets in partnership with Analytics to be used for answering key strategic questions.
  • Design and deliver data process diagrams that help chart a vision for how we can best leverage our data assets.

SUCCESS METRICS

  • Feature Adoption & Engagement: Are people using the feature and how often? Is it delivering value? Did you build the right thing?
  • Execution and Delivery: Are you able to drive decision-making and execution all the way through product delivery?
  • Outcome Measurement: Can you define the proper metrics to track the outcomes we’re seeking? Can you clearly tie outcomes to objectives?
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Are you a collaborative partner? Do people trust your decisions and can you effectively represent the voices of those not in the room?

DESIRED TRAITS

  • Exceptional Passion - For Inspire, our customers, and the urgency of our mission. You naturally weave this passion into your tasks and interactions.
  • Systems Thinking - You’re quickly able to think in principles and frameworks to better understand abstract problems. You can break down complex problems into manageable components and understand how they all work together.
  • Tenacious Grit - You won’t let setbacks or roadblocks get in the way of achieving your objectives. You demonstrate consistent follow-through and hold your team to the same standard.
  • Expert Listening - You seek to understand first before making a decision. You ask as many questions as you need in order to uncover the unknown.
  • Humble Leadership - You seek to build consensus, but can and will drive difficult decisions when required. You push the pace while perceptive to the team. You take blame and pass on praise. People love working with you.
  • Clear Communication - You can write effective and timely communications that keep processes moving along while also giving a clear picture of what is happening. You’re able to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences and you can present outcomes and observations to senior leadership.

EXPERIENCE

  • Must Have
    • Minimum of 5 years experience leading or developing data-focused product initiatives either as a product manager or as a software engineer
    • Proficiency using SQL for the purposes of creating prototype datasets that can be used for answering key business questions while enabling quick productionization of these prototype data sets.
    • Proficiency using SQL for the purposes of understanding the relationship between various data elements, identifying data integrity issues, and creating detailed requirements to preserve data integrity through automated solutions.
    • Proficiency using Excel for the purposes of explaining data transformations required for answering key business questions.
    • Experience with data visualization using Excel.
    • Demonstrated ability to figure out solutions to hard problems with many constraints, using sound judgement to assess risks, and to communicate these solutions in a well-structured, data-informed, written narrative and documentation
    • Minimum 2 years of experience leading, coaching and developing a team
  • Nice to Have
    • Experience in the retail energy industry
    • Experience managing and shipping data and analytics products and features that power operational excellence

    • Experience managing infrastructure projects needed to support and scale an analytics and data science ecosystem
    • Experience coordinating complex product development cycles and software development schedules
    • Strong financial analytics skills
