Position: Buyer; Chicago, IL or Ames, IA Preferred; Remote Considered

We are looking for an experienced Buyer to join our Commercial team. The Buyer will work closely with the Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and R&D teams to strategically plan and source raw materials that enable physical operations to be executed in a timely manner. The Buyer will also be responsible for establishing SOP’s, discovering and optimizing our vendor portfolio, and evaluating and establishing the appropriate ERP modules for sourcing.

Responsibilities:

  • Purchase all goods, materials and components for the Commercial Operations function
  • Negotiate contracts and purchasing of all raw materials and equipment for the Commercial Operations function
  • Identify, evaluate and establish the appropriate ERP/IT resources that will turn sourcing into a competitive core competency for Pivot Bio
  • Foster organizational commitment to purchasing excellence through identifying and facilitating the cross functional teams required to deliver benefits in key categories
  • Provide purchasing leadership and expertise to ensure maximum value is achieved from and throughout the procurement process
  • Establish leading best practice procurement processes and techniques that ensure company procedures are followed
  • Mentor a junior Supply Chain Specialist in the field of procurement

Required Skills and Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in buying and negotiations
  • Attention to detail; self-starter that can work with minimal direction and is comfortable with ambiguity
  • Ability to work across functions and build long-term relationships
  • Ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment
  • Negotiations and planning with external vendors
  • Excellent written and oral communication and problem-solving skills
  • B.S. or B.A. in Supply Chain or business-related field

Additional Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to travel as needed to evaluate new supply chain partners
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work on a computer / telephone for extended periods of time

Must be authorized to work in the United States
