About Terraformation
At Terraformation, we care passionately about solving the climate crisis.
Even as the world scrambles to wean off fossil fuels, we must also draw carbon back out of the atmosphere to stay within our remaining carbon budget. Trees are the most immediate, affordable, and scalable tool for doing this.
Our mission is to accelerate natural carbon capture through forestry tech. We help partners secure diverse native seed supply, tackle freshwater shortages with solar-powered desalination technology, and use open source software for long-term forest health monitoring. Our partnerships focus exclusively on native ecosystem restoration.
By providing forest creators across the globe with these and other tools, we aim to catalyze restoration of 3 billion acres of degraded forest and dry land ecosystems, and activate the most massive carbon drawdown effort on the planet.

Understand our users and creating compelling user experiences and easy-to-use products that encourage use, improve performance, and inform our global stakeholders, giving forestry super powers to anyone around the world.
Terraformation was started by a committed group of technologists and foresters with decades of successful experience in their respective fields. Over a third of early team members have PhDs or advanced degrees in fields like Botany, Physics, Engineering and Soil Science. You will join this collaborative environment with teams from Software Engineering, Product Management, Forestry and Site Engineering to identify and solve problems in all areas of the business.

The Head of Design will lead the product design team with all design projects, building not only cohesive user experience, but a unified team defining first version products that will change the world. While we have very seasoned leadership and funding, we are also a start-up and our culture is about making; making new products, making the world a better place, and making bold steps forward. The teams at Terraformation are enthusiastic about the boundless potential of our technology and our mission and we are looking for leaders who share that excitement.
This is a role for a seasoned design leader with a proven history of bringing teams together to create amazing products. Your understanding of design thinking and systems creates a vision that your teams can enthusiastically work towards. You appreciate that good ideas come from all parts of the business and you empower those around you to be their best. Terraformation is on a mission to change the world on-the-ground forestry best practices combined with the scale and performance benefits from truly ground-breaking technology. Our products are designed to move from the rugged outdoors into climate controlled lab conditions and back again. Many of our products are first-of-their kind end-to-end solutions that will challenge you to find intuitive and natural solutions to satisfy diverse user types.
The design team at Terraformation is growing and has truly talented contributors with specialties in user research, UX/UI, design systems, visual design, animation, etc. They are looking for a design leader that can encourage and focus their efforts through this exciting and challenging period.

Minimum Qualifications
- 5-10 years of product design leadership, overseeing and guiding teams of 5 or more designers
- Proven track record creating mobile and desktop applications
- Experience and Enthusiasm for hiring quality people who are passionate, strong team players
- Cross-functional communication evangelist
- 10+ Years experience designing mobile and desktop apps for a large audience
- Experience establishing and championing design systems for a larger group
- Superb design sensibilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent team collaboration skills
- Expertise with modern digital design tools, Figma, Illustrator, Photoshop, storyboarding tools, etc.
- References from designers you have managed in the past
Ideal Qualifications
- Design Thinking Advocate with the energy to help find and understand our users.
- Experience working with design-to-engineering specification systems
- Skills using Figma to create reusable components and a design architecture that makes deliverables consistent on the design side
- Mobile application development and launch experience (Android a plus)
- Windows desktop application development and launch experience
- International and multi-lingual application design experience
- Accessibility design experience
