As the newest member of the Bioanalytical team, you will contribute to a cross-functional team in a fast paced, collaborative environment. The ideal candidate should have a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, analytical chemistry or another relevant discipline with 8+ years of laboratory experience with minimum of 2 years of laboratory supervision or management experience. As the Bio-Analytical lab manager, this team member will be responsible for ensuring the department’s routine analyses are completed on time, data is entered in LIMS, and maintenance of laboratory equipment (with support of external service contracts). They will work with “internal customer” departments in R&D and Manufacturing to ensure seamless communication about analysis delays. They will also manage a team of technicians to execute the routine analyses and do basic lab maintenance. Ideally, candidate’s experience should include exposure to analytical assays including but not limited to UPLC, SDS-PAGE, GC-MS, and 96 well plate colorimetric and fluorimetric assays. Successful candidates will have an organized and systematic approach to technical challenges, as well as a track record of collaborative relations with groups such as research & development, analytical development, and manufacturing operations.

YOUR CONTRIBUTION:

  • Oversee, schedule, and participate in the execution of all analytical testing, supporting ongoing product development using well-established analytical methods. Most assays revolve around whey proteins quantification and quality assessment.
  • Supervise the preparation and organization of analytical chemistry and biochemistry pipelines, including UPLC, GC-MS, 96 well plate assays and SDS-PAGE.
  • Manage a team of technicians, assigning duties and responsibilities to laboratory technician and chemists, including routine analysis, inventory restocking, laboratory maintenance activities, and data entry in a LIMS system.
  • Manage and oversee the maintenance and repair of laboratory equipment. This includes daily maintenance to ensure instruments are working properly, scheduling preventative maintenance, renewing service contracts, and working with technical support from various vendors.
  • Train laboratory technicians and chemists on various assays including HPLC and GC pipelines.
  • Coordinate all analytical testing performed at external laboratories. Interact with external laboratories as needed.
  • An organized approach to providing reliable analytical services in support of all groups at Perfect Day.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • B.S. in chemistry, biochemistry, or related field with 8+ years of analytical chemistry or biochemistry related experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of laboratory supervision or management experience.
  • Experience working with Agilent UPLC and GC-MS systems.
  • Experience working in LIMS.
  • Candidate must possess excellent communication, organization, and collaborative skills, and demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, and thrive in a dynamic cross-functional team environment.
  • Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail. Inspirational leadership characteristics: proven ability to coach and enable team development.
  • Awareness of inventory control for equipment, consumables, and reagents.

ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS DESIRED, BUT NOT REQUIRED:

  • Experience with JMP or other statistical software is desirable.
  • Familiar with automation workflow a plus.
