Job Description

Qualifications and Experience

  • Three to five years of relevant and comparable experience in nonprofit organizations, coalitions, and advocacy work, including experience working with a diverse set of groups—from grassroots activists to policy experts, outreach, and communications staff.

 

  • We believe experience matters and is equally as important as formalized education. While a Bachelor’s degree preferred, it is not required.

 

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including public speaking, meeting facilitation, and ability to interact professionally and sensitively with individuals with a wide range of experiences, skills, backgrounds, and responsibilities.

 

  • Familiarity with food and farm policy, racial equity issues in the food system, and community food systems preferred.

 

  • Ability to build solid relationships with teammates, partners, and specialists in different areas by fostering teamwork, partnership, and collaboration in virtual or face-to-face environments.

 

  • Strong writing skills, including the ability to create materials relating to food and agriculture policy topics, are essential.

 

  • Excellent organizational skills are required, with the ability to conceptualize, propose, and execute projects independently, with substantial support from Food and Environment program staff.

 

  • Considerable self-motivation and attention to detail, and knowledge of office and administrative support procedures, including word processing, spreadsheet, and database software are needed.

Details:

This is a full-time position based in UCS’s Washington, DC office. For those who meet all position requirements, the salary is around $52,500. UCS offers excellent benefits and a rewarding work environment.
