Job Description

SparkCharge is a fast-growing cleantech start-up that is reducing barriers to Electric Vehicle (EV) adoption. We design, manufacture, and sell portable charging systems for EVs.

SparkCharge needs an experienced professional with the mindset and work ethic required to add many new team members, support team-building efforts, enhance existing cultural norms, and refine our current people management processes. SparkCharge has grown from 10 employees to 25 during the past 12 months; we expect to double again in 2022. This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer.

The People Operations Manager responsibilities include:

  • Recruit, hire, and onboard over 20 new employees during the next six months.
  • Advise and coach SparkCharge managers regarding best employee relationship practices.
  • Work with the CEO and COO to further develop the company’s team-oriented culture.
  • Oversee payroll and benefits programs and ensure their compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Implement a new, software-based performance review process.
  • Implement company-wide training and learning management processes which are both effective and compliant with all government requirements.
  • Coordinate a systematic talent management strategy for the company, including compensation management.
  • Provide feedback to management about any challenging employee or team behavior.
  • Coordinate, if necessary, any performance improvement or discipline procedures.

Requirements

  • Must have eight to 10 year’s direct employee relations experience, including conventional HR duties, at a product or service business.
  • Must be “a people person”—outgoing, self-confident, professional. Must become a trusted ally of all employees, and judiciously bridge any leadership gaps that may exist.
  • Must have a career record of success in positions of increasing responsibility.
  • Must fit well with our hands-on, “many-hats” start-up culture. Excited to get into the trenches to create, implement, and grow HR systems. This is a hands-on job.
  • Must have a BA or BS from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Must be able and willing to work full time at our Somerville, MA office.
  • Use of a SHRM membership is a plus.
  • Experience in the automotive industry is a plus, particularly if with EVs.
  • Experience with a tech-based start-up company is a strong plus.

Benefits

We are a fast-paced, young start-up working to build a culture based on hard work, respect, work/life balance, and open communication. We offer unlimited paid time off. The Company pays 99% of the medical, dental, and vision insurance premiums for employees. We offer FSA savings and 401(k) plans. Compensation will be based on the candidate’s ability to quickly add value to SparkCharge.
