The Team

Our Accounting team plays a critical role in ensuring optimal financial management and efficient operations across Bird. The team partners across all departments at Bird to appropriately inform key business decisions and facilitate the execution of operational plans.

This Position

As our business of changing the world through shared micro-mobility services continues to scale and consumers now begin searching for alternative modes of transportation with fewer crowds, we are seeking a full-time, Senior Revenue Accountant to join our accounting team! This is a brand new position that plays a critical role to support the Company’s continued growth by building the framework for revenue recognition and AR, and month end close activities. The Senior Revenue Accountant will be responsible for recording global revenue at Bird! This position will perform monthly and quarterly close activities for revenue, reconcile revenue and related accounts, prepare related journal entries and reports for auditors and management. Additionally, this position will assist in other close activities related to the order-to-cash cycle and is a critical player in the company's month-end close process. This position is an individual contributor, reports to the Senior Manager of Global Revenue, and will be part of a highly motivated and collaborative team!

Responsibilities

  • Recognize Revenue in accordance with company policy and GAAP
  • Work closely with management to ensure bookings are compliant with the latest revenue recognition rules and SOX
  • Support the monthly close process in preparing journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and flux analysis. This includes but is not limited to, revenue, deferred revenue, wallet, and cost of sale accounts
  • Play a key role in various revenue month end close tasks, assist in the audit process, provide support and ensure MEC activity is compliant
  • Prepare / update workpapers and standard operating procedures for month-end close activities
  • Maintain payment gateways and partner with cross functional teams to ensure fluid setup, understanding, and recognition of all outgoing payments
  • Perform bad debt assessments and record applicable quarterly entries, as well as provide accounting with feedback on uncollected invoices to inform the bad debt reserve
  • Assist in ad-hoc analysis and projects for revenue operations and accounting teams
  • Responsible for non-revenue general ledger responsibilities as needed to support overall success in month end close and financial reporting

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles including but not limited to revenue recognition, audit requirements, and Sarbanes-Oxley
  • Focus on quality with the ability to follow detailed procedures, create documentation of processes and maintain compliance with regulatory controls
  • Experience with NetSuite preferred
  • Bachelor's degree or 4+ years of experience using data to facilitate business decisions
  • Demonstrated ability to think outside the box and solve problems in ambiguous environments
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to articulate verbally and written, willingness to appropriately explain difficult issues; ability to think quickly and thoughtfully
  • Ability to excel in a fast growing/fast paced environment delivering accuracy while managing to deadlines where adaptability is imperative
  • Ability to prioritize workload and manage a high volume of requests
  • Ability to understand broader business, operational and financial issues
  • Innate attention to detail
