  • Lead efforts to build out an overall privacy compliance framework, including developing and maintaining global privacy programs and policies, notices and other documentation, and performing multi-jurisdictional privacy impact assessments to assist with strategy and design.
  • Advise and work closely with our information security and compliance teams with respect to data privacy and data protection measures, including collaborating with the security team in connection with our public company transition and SOX compliance.
  • Monitor and educate stakeholders on regulatory and industry developments, including trends in data privacy and data security laws and regulations (including CCPA/CPRA, GDPR and draft US and EU regulations, such as the ePrivacy Regulation and Digital Services Act) and enforcement.
  • Partner with the Corporate and Commercial legal team in contract negotiations, including supporting the drafting and negotiation of adequate product-related agreements, and privacy and data protection assurances and addenda.
  • Oversee intellectual property portfolio, assist the company to identify patentable inventions and other assets, develop data licensing strategy, and provide guidance regarding open source usage.
  • Advise on a broad range of issues related to platform liability, API integrations, payments, e-commerce, manufacturing, accessibility, environmental, import-export, consumer protection, advertising and telecommunications laws.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of relevant experience at a large law firm and/or in-house legal department.
  • Demonstrated experience designing global privacy and data security compliance programs, policies and processes to meet legal requirements (including GDPR) and advising on responses to data incidents or breaches.
  • Deep knowledge of consumer protection, marketing and intellectual property laws and regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to build cross-functional relationships and project manage teams, including internal stakeholders and outside counsel.
  • Ability to proactively analyze risks and provide pragmatic, business-minded advice and recommendations to thoughtfully drive Bird’s continued growth.
  • Team-oriented and collaborative, with a passion to understand our products, business model and culture.
  • Excellent organizational skills; ability to manage multiple projects at once, follow through and meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, presentation, drafting and negotiation skills.
  • JD from a well regarded law school.
