Rystad Energy is looking for an analyst in our Houston office as part of our research team. The North America Land team covers onshore activity in the United States and Canada, largely focusing on shale and tight oil. Your role will be to analyze well results and activity, with a focus on US Lower-48 oil plays, and to provide our clients with leading and relevant intelligence. We are looking for candidates with strong analytical skills, a passion for research and writing, and a client-centric mindset to facilitate commercial efforts in the Lower-48. Candidates will be required to work independently and as part of a team under tight deadlines and be able to juggle multiple priorities.

The North America Land team is part of the analyst department in Rystad Energy and is responsible for maintaining and developing our products covering onshore North America oil and gas operators, activity, and production. The work consists of collecting and analyzing data, writing reports and regular narratives, and presenting to our clients. This will deepen your understanding of the regional and global oil and gas industry and you will work in close collaboration with our consultants and programmers, as well as our sales and client service teams.

 

What you’ll do:

·         Analyze well results, operator disclosures, and oil-field service data to maintain and improve market-leading forecasts of US oil production by operator and play. You will focus on Lower-48 oil plays including the Permian, Eagle Ford, Bakken and Denver-Julesburg.

·         Maintain close relationships with other related Rystad Energy teams, such as our oil markets group. Assess and model how changes in US policy, OPEC behavior, and other factors will impact Lower-48 oil operators.

·         Distill complex datasets into commentaries and reports, providing insightful and actionable market analysis.

·         Develop presentations synthesizing industry trends and articulating our outlook to clients and prospects both in Houston and in other parts of the Lower-48. Support sales and client success colleagues in answering clients’ questions, leveraging our cutting-edge tools and methodologies.

·         Establish and maintain key connections with operators, service companies, government bodies, and financial institutions

·         Identify and determine the impact of external factors such as prices, M&A, geopolitics & policy etc. on activity

 

What you’ll bring:

·         Required:

o   2-6 years work experience in industry, banking/finance, and/or energy research.

o   Degree in a data-driven field (mathematics, geosciences, engineering, economics, etc.) with solid academic track record.

o   Very strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and some facility with databases and programming tools. The role does not entail writing production-level code, but the analyst should be comfortable interacting with large SQL databases, whether via SQL, Python or another tool.

o   Fluent in English with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Self-motivated, proactive, and ability to work independently as well as be a strong team player.

·         Additional qualifications that would benefit an applicant:

o   Ability to engage with individuals across all levels within target organizations, including senior management.
