EnergySage is the leading online marketplace for solar and other clean energy technologies. We strive to make the experience of going solar as easy as booking a flight online. We are looking for passionate, collaborative, authentic individuals to join our team in making renewable energy options more accessible to consumers. We are the most-visited energy website in the U.S.-- last year 10 million people used our tools. What can you help us achieve?

User Experience

In order to make the shopping and selling experience as delightful as possible, we are seeking a Senior UX Designer to join our growing team and company.

The ideal candidate will play a key role in designing the user experience of our marketplace, as we take on new challenges, update existing flows, and expand into new markets. You are a champion for our users who embraces the challenge of solving complex problems by removing obstacles and creating better user flows. You function well both independently - making well-informed design decisions on your own - and in collaboration with the UX team and cross-functional partners in product, engineering, and other disciplines. You consider yourself to be a UX evangelist who brings a positive, collaborative, and energetic attitude to work every day. You are detail-oriented and highly-adaptive; you welcome challenges and strive for innovative, streamlined, and intuitive solutions.

What you’ll do:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to translate business requirements and user needs into beautiful, delightful, and usable user experiences for our marketplace, where millions of users come to shop and learn about and purchase solar and other clean energy products and services

  • Promote and demonstrate best design and research best practices while working through the end-to-end design thinking lifecycle from ideation and discovery to research and design.

  • Create user flows, sketches, wireframes, user personas, journey maps, affinity maps, service blueprints, clickable prototypes, and other UX artifacts as needed

  • Lead and participate in quantitative and qualitative research efforts to identify and understand customer needs and paint points, identify new feature/product opportunities, validate and discard assumptions, and assess usability of our presence

  • Seek out and incorporate feedback from users and cross-functional stakeholders

What we look for:

  • 5+ years of experience in User Experience Design or other relevant experience

  • Understanding of the end-to-end design thinking lifecycle, and ability to work through every step of it, from ideation and discovery to research and design.

  • Fluency in design and research best practices

  • Proven track record of successfully executing UX design and research on a team and on your own

  • Ability to clearly articulate the why behind your design decisions and how your design solutions will impact business metrics and user behaviors

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to stay organized, execute on deliverables, and meet deadlines with little to oversight

  • Ability to balance your desire for pixel-perfect designs and research with speed, budget, deadlines, and iterations

  • Mastery in at least one UX design tool (for example, Sketch, Figma, Adobe XD, InVision, Axure, Balsamiq)

  • Learners, doers, and dreamers - people who like to learn and grow, people who are able to effectively complete work on time and remain focused throughout the work day and week, and people who strive for best in class, innovative designs and solutions.

  • Experience working in Scrum/Agile product development and product management environments

Bonus Points for:

  • Experience with design systems, brand standards, and a solid knowledge of typography, color, grid, and composition

  • Experience with and awareness of accessibility guidelines and best practices

  • B2C / eCommerce / Comparative Shopping / Marketplace experience

  • Tech startup experience

  • Mastery in Figma and Miro

  • Active member of the UX community

  • Basic knowledge of CSS, HTML, or other similar languages
