Job Description

We believe in a world where less time getting there means more time being there, and that starts with Cora. With over a decade of piloted and autonomous flight experience, we’ve created Cora—our all-electric, self-flying air taxi that will change the future of daily commutes and urban travel. From day one, Cora by Wisk was designed with safety as our first priority using emissions free systems.
We’re working toward a future where you’ll be able to safely soar over traffic and get to where you’re going, faster. Because everyone has somewhere to be, someone to see, and now—a better way to get there.
We are currently seeking a seasoned commercial aerospace software engineer, with experience in full DO-178 Software LifeCycle, to lead the software certification activities for our revolutionary new class of all-electric aircraft. You will draw on your background of DO-178 certified software development and certification experience to help lay out a certification strategy, plans and processes, in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, like FAA for the new area of eVTOL Certification.
The Software Certification Lead Engineer role is responsible for laying out an executable software certification strategy for all aspects of Airborne and Ground based systems. This strategy would be aligned with DO-178C for embedded software (various Levels of Failure Conditions ranging from Level A to Level E), DO-330 for Tool Qualification and DO-331 for Model Based Design. As a lead engineer, this role will be responsible for collaboration with external and internal stakeholders, draft program certification plans and help layout processes to support those plans.
The successful candidate will be comfortable with technical discussions with engineers from a range of disciplines and in many cases help the team understand the certification aspects required for software airworthiness.

Responsibilities

  • Be the Software Certification Liaison for our organization and certification authorities.
  • Develop and submit Plan for Software Aspects of Certification and other requested data to the certification authority for review.
  • Resolve issues and obtain agreement with the certification authority on means of compliance and the submitted documentation.
  • Assist in the development of standards and processes for software lifecycle.
  • Interact with other technical suppliers, as needed, for certification needs of any 3rd party software that may be applicable.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines, such as Systems (ARP4754) and Hardware (DO-254) for coordinated certification strategy.
  • Interact with other project teams at Wisk to keep the overall vehicle vision aligned
  • Build and manage a small team of software engineers supporting the certification journey, in addition to continued collaboration with other members of the team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant engineering discipline
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in embedded software design and certification for commercial aerospace.
  • Proven software development experience governed by processes for certified safety-critical systems (DO-178, DO-254, ARP4754, etc)
  • Proven certification experience leading teams through multiple SOI reviews (SOI#1 through SOI#4)
  • Experience with safety-critical systems developed to detailed requirements
  • Great interpersonal skills, empathetic, compassionate, excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage tasks and projects involving peers across several disciplines

Desired

  • Proven success working in a geographically dispersed or remote work environment
  • Experience in ARP4754 and DO-254 certification processes.
