About This Role

We are seeking a highly motivated, creative, and research-oriented scientist to execute research projects towards formulation development for pre- and post-harvest crop protection. You will be responsible for testing and validation of our formulations on fresh produce and as part of formulation scale-up activities that primarily impact the Material Sciences Team, with some cross-functional collaboration with other R&D and Operations teams to ensure knowledge transfer and quality control of product performance.

Up to 20% travel (domestic and international) may be required.

What You’ll Do:

  • Design and execute experiments to optimize formulations that extend the quality and shelf-life of fresh produce
  • Collect and analyze data from material characterization and produce testing; prepare written reports and presentations to internal and external parties
  • Assist in the development of new technologies that expand Apeel’s technological capabilities and innovation pipeline
  • Support routine testing workflows towards development and maintenance of commercialized products
  • Author and adhere to standard operating procedures, train incoming scientists, and ensure compliance with these standardized group/lab processes by colleagues
  • Research and educate team members on relevant technical topics
  • Demonstrate a commitment to workplace safety through adherence to corporate safety policies

 What You Bring:

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS in Materials Science, Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related STEM field
  • 1+ years formal research experience in a STEM field 
  • Proficiency in Design of Experiments (DOE)
  • Experience in troubleshooting
  • Strong organizational ability and high attention to detail with respect to project management
  • Effective written and/or verbal communication in various technical fields 
  • Ability to perform indoor and outdoor work in cold or hot environments, and the ability to lift and move boxes of fruit (up to 50 lbs)
  • Strong commitment to teamwork and experience working in diverse, interdisciplinary teams in a fast-paced environment
