Job Description

Welcome to the future of energyWe’re a leading energy technology company providing a better experience for our customers through transparency, honesty and simplicity. Better for the planet, through real long-term investment in renewable generation and a low CO2 future and better for our customer’s wallets with fair and affordable plans. Through our proprietary platform and custom-built stack, cloud-based billing, and sophisticated use of data science, we’re revolutionizing what’s possible in energy. We’re transforming the way people interact with their energy company, by making it approachable, easy-to-understand, and most importantly, 100% renewable. We’ve distinguished ourselves by being named 2020’s Energy Provider of the Year, which highlights our commitment to exceptional customer service. We’ve just hopped across the pond in the US and are making big strides in Texas...but that’s only the beginning. Come join our rapidly growing team as we continue to break barriers in energy. We're looking for someone to support our growing marketing team and help cement the Octopus Energy brand as consumer’s number one choice in Texas

What you'll do

  • You'll support all aspects of the marketing operations and drive D2D campaign work.
  • You'll have your fingers on the pulse of Texas culture & consumers. You understand how they think and what drives their decision making.
  • You’ll be excited to go out to the local community events and businesses and talk about why Octopus Energy is the most incredible supplier in the US
  • You’ll use your great business development skills to negotiate strategic partnerships that will help grow customer growth and brand awareness
  • You know your way around a good contract. You’re not a lawyer, but can happily draft an outline and work with a legal team to finalize important documentation.
  • You’d like to help save the world before it’s too late.
  • 6+ years experience in marketing preferred

There's also probably some things you should know...

  • We rarely use agencies for anything. We’re a fabulous team of in-house designers, UX, writers and front enders. We do our own media buying. You could say, in fact, that we’re half agency, but we’re your most favourite ever client, the one you secretly yearned to work at.
  • We’re pretty obsessive. We think about our customers a lot. A lot a lot. We answer emails from customers, we join in on social media, we think constantly about what makes great experiences, great stories and great reasons for people to join us.
  • We’re looking for someone who’s worked their way around the marketing mix and can trot out some good metrics, but actually, what you really really know, is humans. You can put together a brand pyramid, but it makes you cry inside a little bit, because actually you feel what a brand is, why people choose it (even where that might seem illogical), and you’re just a little bit fascinated about why people make the choices they do.
  • You’re a grafter, but you’re a smart grafter, you put effort where you know it delivers the most value - writing out an agenda for a meeting kills a little bit of your soul.
  • You’ve a burning desire to turn your skills to something meaningful. You enjoy the pace of the commercial world, but you’d rather not sell sugar water or bank products anymore, you want to be delivering something more sustainable to the world.
  • And finally. We have to be honest, we find that people from traditional businesses often struggle here. We don’t work to backlogs, we don’t write business cases, but we prioritize effectiveness and efficiency above all else. We expect accountability without process, and responsibility without functional shoulder pads. We get stuff done by knowing what’s right, and sometimes that’s hard.
  • This will be an important role, reporting into the US Head of Marketing.

Why else you'll love it here

  • Great medical, dental, and vision insurance options including FSAs
  • Unlimited paid time off — we know working hard means also being able to recharge as needed, we trust our employees to get the work done and take the time they need..
  • 401(k) plan with employer match:
  • Parental leave. Biological, adoptive and foster parents are all eligible.
  • Pre-tax commuter benefits .
  • Flexible working environment: you need to shift around your schedule? You do you, we genuinely believe in work/life balance.
  • Equity Options: every Octopus employee owns part of the business. We’re a team, working together towards huge goals. Every person is crucial to our success, you should be rewarded as such.
  • Modern office or co-working spaces depending on location.

If this all sounds like you then we'd love to hear from you. At Octopus, we're looking for genuinely decent people who are honest and empathetic. Our commitment is to provide equal opportunities, a diverse and inclusive work environment, and fairness for everyone. You are welcome to apply no matter your race, gender identity, sexuality, age, family or civil status, disability, religion, or ethnicity.
