Position Overview:Solid Power is seeking an experienced Materials Engineer to join our talented team working to revolutionize the battery industry through the development of next-generation, solid-state electrolyte materials. Solid Power is a dynamic, fast-paced, collaborative team environment. The Materials Engineer will be a part of the Electrolyte Technologies team, assisting personnel on a variety of projects relating to solid-state electrolytes, with a specific focus on synthesis, characterization, process development and scaleup.Job Duties<ul><li>Design and implement highly systematic DOEs toward critical material development </li><li>Conduct relevant characterization (e.g. physical, chemical and electrochemical) on electrolytes and electrode materials </li><li>Participate with cross-functional teams to introduce and execute process improvements and/or equipment upgrades to improve electrolyte performance and manufacturability</li><li>Maintain thorough and accurate records of all conducted experimentation </li><li>Interface with Cell Technologies team to evaluate electrolyte properties’ effect on cell performance, safety and quality</li><li>Participate with cross-functional teams to develop next-generation materials and transfer developed materials and processes to the production scale </li><li>Conform to all safety precautions and protocols </li><li>Document and follow Solid Power’s standard operating procedures and assist in drafting or improving procedures during process development</li><li>Mentor junior team members, operators and interns</li></ul>Qualifications/Requirements:<ul><li>Ph.D. in chemistry, materials science or related discipline</li><li>2+ years of experience in the chemical industry desirable </li><li>Background in structural and/or synthetic chemistry </li><li>Experience in sulfide based solid-state batteries, solid electrolyte synthesis and electrochemical testing is highly preferred</li><li>Experience in material characterization techniques (e.g. XRD, TGA, DSC, FT-IR, Raman) </li><li>Hands-on experience working with hazardous materials, dry powder processes, and wet chemical/slurry and solvent-based operations </li><li>Excellent work ethic and ability to quickly demonstrate independence </li><li>Ability to adapt to rapidly evolving research environment</li><li>Structured problem-solving and analytical skills </li><li>Excellent communication and organizational skills </li></ul>Physical Requirements:<ul><li>Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk.</li><li>Ability to lift 10-20 lbs, up to 50 lbs occasionally.</li><li>Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as necessary including, but not limited to eye protection, hair net, gloves, face mask, coveralls, full-face respirator or PAPR.</li></ul>Salary Range: $100,000 - $135,000/annuallyBenefits: Solid Power offers a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical/dental/vision insurance, employer paid Life/AD&amp;D/STD/LTD insurance, 401k with company match, paid holidays, unlimited PTO, cell phone reimbursement and eligibility in our equity incentive and bonus plans.Export Control Requirements: This position could require access to technology, software and other information that is subject to governmental access control restrictions, due to export controls.
