Software Engineer

Earthscale is hiring a software engineer to build a geospatial intelligence platform that will help scientists deepen our understanding of the planet.

Our mission and vision

A new wave of planetary data is revolutionizing our understanding of Earth systems. This data will underpin many solutions to global challenges like climate change.

Earthscale's mission is to help scientists and analysts produce insights from geospatial data. We enable them to make sense of vast volumes of satellite and sensor data to map and monitor the Earth. Our vision is a future where advanced geospatial AI drives solutions in sectors such as agriculture, insurance, energy production, nature-based solutions, and built infrastructure.

About the role

You'll join a small team building the first version of our platform. You'll tackle challenging software problems, ranging from large-scale data processing to crafting very shiny React components. We'll give you substantial freedom in feature design and implementation. Our primary languages are Python and TypeScript.

The job is hybrid, based in the Bay Area. The founders live in SF, and we work in-person at least twice a week. Two of our founding engineers collaborate with us remotely from Austria.

We offer a salary range of $130,000–200,000 USD, depending on your skillset and experience. However, we're open to negotiation—we don't want compensation to deter a great candidate. We provide generous equity, good healthcare options, and we're open to adding new benefits. We also offer ample PTO. We're committed to fostering a sustainable work environment. About you

We're looking for people who are excited to build beautiful products, tinker, and understand how computers work. You should enjoy delving deep into the internals of the tools and systems you interact with.

For this role, we are seeking someone with:

• Startup experience.

• Front-end skills in TypeScript, React.

• High Python comfort level.

• An eye for design/UX-- we appreciate seeing portfolio projects.

However, it's okay if you don't perfectly match that, what we value most is your ability to learn quickly. We love hearing about long-term projects you've worked on and areas where you've developed deep domain knowledge.

Don't worry if you're not an expert in geospatial or a startup enthusiast. What's important is that you're comfortable in a fast-paced environment where customer feedback and discovery drive our priorities.

About the Earthscale team

Right now we are a team of 4. We all have technical backgrounds and collaborated closely with geospatial analysts and scientists. We strive to use that experience to better empathize with their pain points and needs. We also have great advisors, investors, and founder friends to help us along the way. We previously worked at companies like Pachama, OpenAI, and Blackshark. We recently raised a pre-seed round that gives us several years of runway.
