Sofar is on a mission to connect the world’s oceans. We design, build, and deploy the largest privately owned network of marine weather sensors to power the world’s best marine weather forecasts. Our data helps our customers to increase efficiency and reduce emissions, delivering tools to governments and other stakeholders to understand impacts of climate change on extreme weather and ocean health. We live on Planet Ocean, and our goal is to create the ocean intelligence needed to ensure a sustainable future.
The ocean may be the harshest environment for which people design and deploy electronic systems at scale. Our sensing systems are groundbreaking in their low cost, small size, and global coverage. To succeed at our mission, it is essential we maintain a focus on constantly improving our designs for the harsh ocean environment, constantly improving our manufacturing processes, and constantly advance our focus on quality. As the Senior Test Engineer on our manufacturing team, you'll lead the design and implementation of our testing systems – from sensor calibration fixtures to embedded system test scripts. You'll collaborate closely with design engineers to generate functional test requirements, work with the manufacturing and production teams (on-site and at contract manufacturers) to ensure test fixtures and tools are in good order and being used properly, will mentor and guide more junior test and production engineers, and will report to Sofar's Manufacturing Engineering Lead.
You thrive in a fast-moving and highly collaborative multifunctional team. You're excited the systems you'll build will be the final touch to Sofar sensors that will be shipped and deployed in oceans around the world to collect critical data to support conservation efforts, climate and weather science, coastal safety, and more sustainable marine industry operations. You're thrilled at the opportunity to join a growing startup, grow your technical and leadership skills, make a big positive impact on our planet, and learn a lot from a fantastic team of engineers, scientists, and ocean enthusiasts along the way.
This role would work from our headquarters at Pier 28 in San Francisco.
