The Role: Operations Engineer

The Operations Engineer will be a key leader for managing hydrogen generation, compression, transport, and refueling system operations for large-scale hydrogen infrastructure technology. Your skill and experience will be leveraged for training of O&M personnel around the globe, helping troubleshoot issues in the field, and contributing to improve product design to optimize operability, maintainability, and reliability of newly developed state-of-the-art systems.

The Operations Engineer will report to the Head of Program Management and Operations.

 

Your Responsibilities

  • Develop into a subject matter expert for hydrogen generation, compression, transport, and refueling system operations
  • Work with vendors and partners in the field transitioning large-scale hydrogen infrastructure to the operations phase
  • Assist maintenance personnel onsite troubleshooting systemic operations and maintainability issues
  • Analyze, optimize, and manage overall hydrogen infrastructure ecosystem for large-scale generation, compression, storage and refueling applications
  • Contribute to a hydrogen-specific training program for 3rd party O&M personnel, delivering both face to face and remote training in support of LIFTE projects and services
  • Contribute to developing O&M documentation including but not limited to:
  • HAZID/HAZOPS reviews
  • Pre-Startup Safety Review
  • Commissioning Verification and Validation Plan
  • Operations Manual
  • Emergency Response Manual
  • Maintenance Manual
  • Contribute your experience and skillset to developing operations-focused digital applications such as a Computerized Maintenance Management Systems, reporting, and analytics toolboxes

Additional Details

  • 20-30% Domestic and International Travel
  • Position is based in Boston, US or Berlin, Germany
  • One day per week attendance in office required

Requirements

What Experience & Education is Required?

  • For US: Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis
  • Bachelor of Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
  • Industrial systems operations and/or field engineering experience an asset
  • Certification as a high pressure welder, electrician, control systems technician, or heavy duty mechanic is an asset
  • Experience working directly with hydrogen technology vendors is an asset

What Skills are Necessary for Success?

  • Detail-oriented
  • Knowledge of electrolysis, hydrogen compression, hydrogen process control and metering, and FCEV refueling systems & protocols
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to self-direct
