Shift/Hours/Location: M-F, 8am-5pm, Onsite, Mesa, AZ

WHAT YOU WILL BE WORKING ON

  • Oversee and lead the implementation/conformance of the Arizona EHSS Management System (EHSSMS).
  • Manage applicable Environmental and Safety Affairs programs and partner with interdisciplinary personnel to assure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations for all aspects of MLI Corporate operations.
  • Manage communications and maintain positive relationships with outside regulatory agencies at the local, state, and federal level.
  • Serve as the primary contact with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies (e.g., City of Mesa ADEQ, EPA, OSHA) to ensure compliance with all applicable polices and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and submit annual compliance reports to regulatory agencies.
  • Implement and maintain the ISO 14001/45001 EHSSMS systems and certifications.
  • Partner with Arizona management to integrate and utilize key business systems and tools (e.g., CMMS, EHS Inquiry Form, Project Tracking System).
  • Manage and coordinate EHSS project scope items with management, internal staff, and local building officials (AHJs).
  • Make recommendations regarding the need for the purchase of additional facility/EHSS related equipment.  Propose capital improvement projects as needed to improve operational performance and assist with their execution.
  • Communicate and collaborate with MLI Corporate EHSS staff to identify and implement tools to increase efficiency and maintain compliance and conformance with ISO standards (e.g., EHSS Compliance Register).
  • Lead monthly site EHSS meetings to promote employee engagement and continuous improvement of the safety program.
  • Lead Arizona waste program to ensure timely and cost-effective waste disposal.
  • Assists in the evaluation of chemicals, activities and processes for compliance and prevention of EHSS impacts.
  • Collaborate with Arizona staff, LCHO and the ML EHSS team to assess facility risk, prioritize risk reduction measures and implement controls to promote employee health, safety, and security.
  • Oversight for site security program compliance.
  • Provide site wide guidance, support, and employee training on various safety related topics (e.g., Emergency Response, Lone Worker Program).
  • Oversee all emergency response activities and serve as primary regulatory liaison for emergency services.
  • Drive safety excellence through inspections, process/equipment reviews and proactive risk elimination and track corrective actions to closure.
  • Oversee accident investigations and near misses to determine root cause and recommend preventive measures.
  • Uphold all MLI policies and “MLI Code of Conduct.”
  • Strict compliance with Environmental and Safety regulations.
  • Compliance and individual accountability with the MLI Quality System and ISO Registration is required.  It is the employee’s commitment to ensure that the Company’s actual practices and procedures are exercised as directed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support and sustain a high performing team.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • B.S. in EHS Management, engineering, science, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience in industrial type setting.
  • Demonstrated EHSS/People leadership experience required.
  • Demonstrated experience working with regulatory agencies.
  • Excellent people skills.
  • Experience in the design, permitting, installation and compliance testing for air, water, and waste management processes.
  • Lead Auditor certification in ISO with either specific training in the subset of ISO 14001 or 45001 and ability to lead and respond to certification audits.
  • Knowledge and experience in detailed complex permitting processes and compliance strategies for all environmental, safety and related matters.
  • Experience in negotiations and management of significant non-compliance agency enforcement actions and their resolution. This includes working with internal and external legal counsel.
  • Proof of current RCRA training.
  • Strong computer skills are required including proficiency with MS Word, Outlook and Excel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and supportively with a broad range of individuals with different levels of education and experience.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, personnel, and tasks simultaneously with guidance on priority in order to meet established deadlines.
  • Respond positively and effectively to rapidly changing priorities and departmental needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and lead by example.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge and use of EMS software strongly desired.
  • Experience with MS Project, SharePoint, Visio, and Great Plains is very helpful but not required.

SALARY & BENEFITS

Please note that the salary information shown below is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Summary pay range: $83K-$123K

WORKING CONDITIONS

Duties are generally performed indoors in an office and high purity manufacturing environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. When working in the presence of safety hazards, the employee is expected to follow company safety rules and use proper personal protective equipment such as: hardhat, safety glasses and full leather shoes, etc. Employees will work in a covered Process Safety Management (PSM) environment containing threshold quantities of flammable liquids and/or gasses that have a potential for fire or explosion. Employees working in this environment are required to be free from devices that are not considered intrinsically safe. Examples of devices that may not be intrinsically safe include Insulin Pumps, Pacemakers, Pain Management devices, etc.
