Job Description

At Span, we are building products that enable the rapid adoption of renewable energy like home solar, batteries, and electric vehicles. The Span Smart Panel replaces the standard electrical panel to become the center for connected power in the home, providing revolutionary insights and home energy controls through the Span mobile app. 

Span’s unique position as a connected hardware and software product at the electrical center of the home creates an unprecedented opportunity for strategic partnerships. We have built set up relationships with utilities, complementary product manufacturers, distributed energy companies, insurance providers, and more, and are looking to continue to add to and develop strategic partnerships that make step-function changes in our business. Span is seeking a Business Development Manager to help build out additional channels and partnerships that increase our revenue and enhance our strategic position in the industry. As an early member of Span’s Business Development team, you will help shape the direction of our company and have opportunities to grow with the company.

Responsibilities

  • Source and develop relationships with potential strategic partners

  • Negotiate and close deals that significantly add to Span’s revenue and strategic position, running point externally and internally on these relationships

  • Own multiple strategic relationships on an ongoing basis, working to grow our business with each partner over time

  • Collaborate with the VP of Business Development to build strategies for new potential partnership verticals, including EV manufacturers, financiers, and product manufacturers

  • Work closely with Span’s product and revenue teams to open new markets and create new products

Required Qualifications

  • 6-10 years work experience, including at least 3 years in a strategic business development role and at least 3 years in a sales role

  • Deep understanding of players and dynamics in the residential home energy market

  • Strong sales acumen and experience, with a solid track record of results as a hunter sourcing and closing new accounts

  • Outstanding communications skills, with demonstrated ability to build trust-based relationships as well as write quickly and concisely

  • Highly motivated, self-directed, and a solid strategic thinker

Bonus Qualifications

  • Technical background (e.g. engineering degree) or experience in a technical field

  • Previous product or strategy experience
