Accounting Manager (Hands-On)

The Accounting Manager will play a crucial role in overseeing daily accounting functions, managing financial reporting, directly transacting revenue cycle activities, and spearheading month-end close activities. Reporting directly to the CFO, this role will supervise one direct report, the Staff Accountant, while working closely with other departments to ensure timely transaction processing, accurate financial data and effective budgeting. The ideal candidate is highly organized, extremely detail-oriented, very hands on, and able to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee Daily Accounting Operations
Manage all aspects of the general ledger, including accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), and payroll processing for 3 entities.
Directly handle accurate and timely revenue cycle transactions including processing of order acknowledgments, invoicing, customer payments, and reconciliations.
Propose, review, analyze, and adjust journal entries as needed.
Responsible for managing logistics process for revenue cycle including coordinating delivery of materials to end customers worldwide.
Financial Reporting and Analysis
Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports to management.
Conduct financial analysis and provide insights to inform business decisions.
Assist in preparing forecasts, budgets, and variance analysis.
Month-End Close
Oversee the month-end and year-end closing processes.
Prepare, review, and approve all closing journal entries and account reconciliations.
Ensure accuracy of financial data, including accruals, amortizations, and prepaids.
Compliance and Internal Controls
Ensure compliance with GAAP and company policies.
Manage internal controls and ensure best practices in accounting procedures.
Support audits and assist with tax and regulatory compliance as applicable.
Team Leadership and Collaboration
Supervise, mentor, and train the Staff Accountant, supporting their professional development.
Collaborate with other departments to support company-wide initiatives and improve financial processes.
Proactively identify opportunities for process improvement and implement solutions.
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
CPA or CMA certification is a plus.
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally including experience in a supervisory role.
Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting, including ASC 606 (ASC 718 & 842 a plus), ideally including consolidation/subsidiary accounting.
Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) and advanced Excel skills. Smartsheet.com and Salesforce.com skills a plus.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Proven ability to work independently with strong work ethic, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment.
