General Summary:
The Operations Manager oversees the daily production operations of the plant(s). Monitors operations for efficiency and safety, while ensuring that all applicable regulatory requirements are met. Oversees production staff, including hiring/training of personnel. Makes recommendations and changes to the business plans as needed to achieve overall Production department goals. Prepares and presents routine reports to communicate current situation to senior management team. Ensures overall Quality and Safety and reports status on frequent basis.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Leads in the management of daily activities of the various Production departments with emphasis on data collection and analysis of actual conditions. Approves the activities which reflect the direction for the business plan in the areas of Safety, Environmental, Quality, Cost, Delivery, Development, and Morale (SEQCDDM). Inspects the work areas and communicates with department management to understand current situation. Encourages the development and implementation of ideas for continuous improvement Safety, Environmental, Quality, Cost, Delivery, Development, and Morale (SEQCDDM). Reviews department’s gap analysis of business plan objectives as compared to current line conditions (SEQCDDM) in order to approve new themes developed for line enhancements. Maintains direct or delegated focus on overall daily line performance & countermeasures any areas of concern through deliberate and timely direction to management team. Lead activities in the preparation of department business plans including manpower and budget. Ensures compliance to all company environmental and safety rules. Conducts follow-up audits / inspections on production failures, accidents, poor performance issues, or other incidents that have a negative impact on production. Manages applicable vendor selections as needed. Proactively resolves safety concerns with appropriate countermeasures. Reviews and approves all training plans that ensure all associates are properly trained in their tasks with strong emphasis on safety. Ensures all record retention activities are followed. Ensures compliance to company policies and rules for associates within the department. Holds meetings as required to resolve production issues and attends routine management meetings as scheduled. Makes decisions on production personnel changes to improve efficiency Accomplishes department and organization mission by completing related tasks as needed.
Qualifications, Education, Work Experience, Certification:
Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, manufacturing fields or equivalent experience. 8 or more years of production manufacturing experience in leadership role. Expert experience with OSHA related topics for manufacturing environments. Expert experience with multiple manufacturing processes, including process control (SPC), Lean manufacturing (5S/visual management), etc. Expert experience in management systems for the production floor including Safety, Environment, and Quality.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Expert understanding of leadership, strategic planning and budgeting. Expert conflict management skills. Expert interpersonal and negotiation skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills Manage multiple conflicting priorities. Ability to interact with employees at all levels. Self-directed and motivated. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Physical Requirements:
Incumbents may be routinely exposed to equipment operational noise heat-cold-and dust. Incumbents may be required to stand, sit, squat, walk, bend, move, reach, or stretch for prolonged time periods with no restrictions, as required by job duties. Work in a safe and professional manner while adhering to all regulatory requirements (OSHA, EPA, State, and Federal regulations, etc.). Read, hear, speak, and see with no restrictions, as required by job duties. Comprehend and adhere to management directions and/or safety instructions with no restrictions. Effectively communicate in Business English language. Pull, push, carry, lift, or move items up to 10 lbs. throughout the work shift without assistance, as required by job duties. Pull, push, carry, lift or move materials/people/items/equipment weighing up to 50lbs or more during the work shift, with the use of Company provided “reach assistance technology” or “movement assist technology” (fork-lifts, pallet jacks, pulleys, dolly’s, robotics reach equipment, etc.), as required by job duties.
