Hiring Immediately - Apprentice Technicians  

Transdev Services, Inc. is seeking Apprentice Technicians (Freeport shop in Dorchester,
MA and Washington shop in Roxbury, MA - position hours:  12:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. – management will determine location assignments)
 for its Boston Public Schools transportation contract.

Responsibilities: 
  • Maintains the upkeep of the shop and yard.
  • Responsible for trash removal.
  • Performs fluid level checks and any other non-mechanical assignments given by the Shop Manager or designee.
  • Performs minor school bus repairs including but not limited to light replacements, mirror replacements/adjustments, crossing arm replacements, taping of seats and seat cover replacements.
  • Receives on-the-job training from Master Mechanics, A Mechanics, B Mechanics, and qualified Management personnel.
  • Keeps assigned work area clean.
  • Performs data entry into the RTA computer system. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. 
Education, Licensing, and Certifications Required:
  • A technical or vocational high school diploma with a concentration in diesel and/or automotive technology.
    • A high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) with one (1) year of experience in diesel and/or automotive maintenance may substitute for the technical or vocational high school diploma.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must maintain an excellent motor vehicle record. 
Education, Licensing, and Certifications Preferred:
  • ASE certifications.
  • A valid Class B Commercial Driver's License.

Experience Required
:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age. 
Experience Preferred:
  • Bus or heavy-duty truck repair experience, preferred. 
Skills and Knowledge Required:
  • Ability to operate hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, welding equipment, and jacks and hoists.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to work in a safe manner.
  • Must be able to comprehend parts books and maintenance manuals, and accurately complete any necessary reports or other documents.
  • Must possess basic computer skills.

Physical Demands           
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, stoop, squat, and walk for extended periods of time, use hands and fingers to handle small parts, push buttons, reach with hands and arms; and use legs and feet to climb ladders and stairs.  Must lift 50 pounds from floor to bus; lift/carry 15 lbs up to 100’; push/pull 50 lbs. up to 8’; torque 100 lbs. wheel lug; be able to squat; and move the steering wheel and operate pedals freely while seated in bus seat.
 
Work Environment:     
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time, which can be very hot in the summer months and cold during the winter months. The noise level in the work environment can be moderate to loud. Vibrations and fumes or airborne particles may also be present.
