The Towns of San Anselmo and Fairfax are hiring their first ever Climate Action Coordinator! This inaugural position is looking for the perfect candidate to lead these two neighboring towns on the path of decarbonization and resilience!

The towns of San Anselmo and Fairfax are hiring a joint Climate Action Coordinator to energize and operationalize their Climate Action Plans. San Anselmo and Fairfax are nestled in the foothills of Mt. Tamalpais in Marin County, California. Together, these two towns (with a combined population just over 20,000) have a legacy of environmental and climate leadership, but both are ready to deepen their commitments to a sustainable future. They seek a a dedicated, passionate individual to advance the policies, programs, operations, and infrastructure solutions outlined in their respective Climate Action Plans.

This 37.5-hour/week benefitted position will serve a two-year limited term initially. The Employer of Record will be the Town of Fairfax, but the duties and efforts of the position will be directed towards both San Anselmo and Fairfax equally. The Climate Action Coordinator will combine their expertise in climate action, community organizing, and local policy to achieve the following objectives on behalf of both towns:

  1. Work with Town departments to set Climate Action Plan Implementation goals in the annual Work Plan and monitor progress quarterly.
  2. Research and recommend measures to further the Town's climate justice commitments.
  3. Develop programs and implement climate actions equitably within the community and identify grant and partnership opportunities on an ongoing basis.

The ideal candidate will be a degreed environmental professional, have a passion for influencing and inspiring climate change, possess demonstrable experience working the environmental or planning fields, have project or program management experience, be experienced in effectively maneuvering in and around local government, and act ethically, with a keen sense of diplomacy, professionalism, and political acumen.

Additional Details:

  • Hours: 37.5 hours/week
  • Wages: $30.77/hr or $5,000/mo ($60,000/year)
  • Term length: 2 years
  • CalPERS Retirement Pension: 2% at 62 for new members
  • Paid Holidays: 11 days annually (prorated based on 37.5 hrs/wk)
  • Vacation: 11 days annually (prorated based on 37.5 hrs/wk)
