Location: Port Edward Eastern Cape – Msikaba River Bridge siteREPORTS TO: Resident Engineer PRIMARY POSITION PURPOSE We are currently seeking Senior Material Technician (SMT) to Plan, direct and control all activities related to the quality and acceptance control of materials for the supervision of the Msikaba Bridge in the Eastern Cape.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Main duties may include, but not limited to, some of the following:<ul><li>Prioritize, schedule, perform and document field and laboratory testing to evaluate the acceptability of materials used on the structures and road construction.</li><li>Interpret engineering test methodologies in accordance with COLTO, TMH, TRH, TG-series, SANS, and other relevant standards</li><li>Review and evaluate available construction materials and sources, and prepare laboratory and field computations to evaluate results and classify materials</li><li>Maintain records of all testing performed in the field and laboratory, and compile material as-built documentation</li><li>Monitor the calibration and serviceability of laboratory and field testing equipment, and liaise with commercial laboratories regarding such</li><li>Resolve issues with Contractor and Engineer regarding non-compliance with materials specifications, and make recommendations for corrective action that may be needed</li><li>Communicate with the Employer’s materials staff, and ensure compliance with the Employer’s reporting and other requirements</li><li>Prepare all materials COLTO as-built records</li></ul>KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS <ul><li>Overseeing and delivery of design standards</li><li>Quality and timeliness of reporting and other deliverables such as drawings</li><li>Planning of workload to meet deadlines</li><li>Knowledge and implementation of SMEC’s systems and procedures</li><li>Reporting to meet project and internal requirements</li><li>Client satisfaction with project delivery</li><li>Report writing</li></ul>RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE  <ul><li>Professional Technician/Technologist registration (preferably).</li><li>Minimum 7 years’ experience working as a Materials Technician on SANRAL and/or Provincial roads projects.</li><li>Experience in reinforced concrete structures.</li><li>Knowledge and experience of concrete materials.</li><li>Registrable as a professional technician with ECSA</li><li>Advanced skills in material testing and material evaluation.</li><li>Knowledge of COLTO and other relevant Standard Specifications.</li><li>Quality control and civil materials laboratory managing skills are essential.</li><li>Valid driver’s license (minimum code B).</li><li>Proven organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks.</li><li>Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented environment.</li><li>Ability to effectively write reports</li></ul>We believe that a diverse workforce is essential to our business success.
