The opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Commissioning Engineer to join Hitachi Energy. You will be part of our Grid Integration business, specifically within the Grid & Power Quality Solutions and Service team. Your role will involve testing and commissioning activities, implementing and managing commissioning procedures, and ensuring projects are commissioned safely, within the specified time frame, and according to project specifications.
Please note this position is of a hybrid nature (2/3 days working out of our central Birmingham office). Please also note we are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position.
How you’ll make an impact
Manage the commissioning phase of our renewable energy projects, focusing on safety, quality, efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and innovative energy solutions.
Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration and optimization of digital engineering solutions.
Engage with clients and stakeholders to foster strong relationships and ensure projects align with community values and expectations.
Prepare and review project documentation and reports.
Mentor and guide junior engineers, enhancing their skills and fostering a culture of excellence.
Responsible for testing and commissioning of substation equipment.
Prepare the project commissioning program, including schedule, inspection and test plan, during tender and site execution phases.
Ensure the project adheres to Hitachi EHS and Quality Policies and meets project specifications.
Your background
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in electrical engineering or a related field.
Knowledge of electrical safety standards, policies, procedures, and practices.
Working in the UK, in testing and commissioning HV substation equipment, protection, and control systems.
Experience in the implementation and execution of Safe Systems of Work, LV permits, and lock-out tag-out procedures.
Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental requirements and The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations.
Experience in developing commissioning programs and supporting procedures.
Commissioning experience on substations up to 400kV.
Highly motivated and able to work under pressure.
Willingness to travel around the UK as required.
