About the Job
Peak Energy is looking for an Engineering Technician to join our Energy Storage Systems (ESS) team and work at the forefront of the development of our gigawatt scale energy storage systems. This role will be responsible for hands-on assembly, integration, and testing of energy storage system prototypes at our prototype facility in the San Francisco Bay Area. This person will leverage technical expertise and practical skills to play a key role in building and optimizing energy storage system prototypes, contributing to the development and validation of next-generation energy storage solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with engineers and project managers to assemble, integrate, and test energy storage system prototypes according to project requirements and specifications.
- Conduct hands-on assembly and installation of battery modules, power electronics components, control systems, and other hardware components to build complete energy storage system prototypes.
- Perform wiring, cabling, and soldering tasks to connect electrical components and subsystems, ensuring proper electrical connections and functionality.
- Assist in the setup and configuration of testing equipment and instrumentation for prototype testing, including data acquisition systems, sensors, and monitoring devices.
- Conduct functional tests, performance tests, and validation tests on energy storage system prototypes to verify compliance with design requirements and performance targets.
- Troubleshoot and debug issues encountered during prototype assembly, integration, and testing, and collaborate with engineering teams to implement corrective actions and improvements.
- Document assembly procedures, test procedures, and test results, and maintain accurate records of prototype builds, modifications, and configurations.
- Adhere to safety protocols and best practices for handling hazardous materials, electrical equipment, and testing environments, ensuring a safe and compliant work environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate degree or technical certification in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field; bachelor's degree preferred.
- 3+ years of experience as a technician or assembler in a manufacturing or engineering environment, with hands-on experience in prototype assembly and testing.
- Strong technical skills and proficiency in reading schematics, technical drawings, and assembly instructions, with the ability to interpret and follow complex instructions.
- Experience working with electrical components, power electronics, batteries, and electromechanical systems, with knowledge of battery energy storage systems being a plus.
- Proficiency in using hand and power tools for assembly, wiring, soldering, and mechanical tasks, with a strong attention to detail and quality.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies, processes, and tools.
