Are you a subject matter expert with Data Analysis and Electric Vehicle Infrastructure? California Energy Commission (CEC) is hiring an Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Data Scientist within the Passenger Electric Vehicles Technologies and Infrastructure Branch in the Fuels and Transportation Division (FTD). FTD administers the Clean Transportation Program, which is investing more than $1 billion to accelerate the deployment of zero-emission transportation infrastructure and support in-state manufacturing and workforce training and development in California.

The Advanced Analytics, Equity and Station Reliability (AAESR) Unit within the Infrastructure Branch evaluates the State’s zero emission vehicle (ZEV) infrastructure needs in terms of how many stations are needed to inform state decisions and priorities regarding infrastructure funding and deployment. This unique position will focus on collecting, organizing and analyzing large volumes of data on charger reliability and utilization to help drive this evaluation. The data analysis will help determine the health and function of the State’s charger network and provide critical information on charger utilization to help model the charger needs of the state for light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience with technologies used to transmit, collect, organize, and store large amounts of data, including application programming interfaces (APIs). 

  • Demonstrated experience with SQL to access and manipulate large datasets.

  • Familiarity with statistical analysis tools such as python and R to interpret data.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of data management, statistical analysis methods, timeseries analysis and data “munging” with large datasets.

  • Ability to apply knowledge to organize and interpret large volumes of data.

  • Familiarity with JSON and XML parsing. 

  • Ability to visualize and communicate findings from analysis.

  • Familiarity with visualization tools such as Tableau 

  • Ability to think critically and develop creative solutions to problems.

  • Ability to complete complex technical assignments independently and within a team setting.

  • Four years of technical energy experience in electric generation system planning, design, evaluation, or operation.

 

 

** Telework option is available, but hired candidate must reside in California before starting.
