Job Description:

BeZero is looking for a Data Scientist to join our product team. This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the fastest growing climate start ups and create the tools for climate action. The BeZero Carbon Markets platform provides data & analytics research into certified voluntary carbon projects. Our framework and analysis are helping scale the voluntary carbon market by driving efficiency and transparency. This multifaceted role will play a key part in using  data, and analytics to create rich content for the platform. This will include systematising project data collection, managing internal datasets and driving our use of Machine Learning and other statistical techniques.  

 

Key Outcomes:

  1. Create, maintain,  and evolve BeZero’s Machine Learning models
  2. Curate the data sources for the content and engineering teams to inform qualitative and quantitative analysis.  Manage inbound data sources, structure and maintain data:
  • Qualitative data - project documents, news alerts, market information, policy and regulations etc
  • Quantitative data - project data, market transactions (price, volume, issuance, retirements etc)

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Scrape and process data from a wide range of sources
  • Manipulate large data sets to extract, categorise and store information about voluntary carbon market projects
  • Organise and manage data sets in order to provide the basis for BCM platform content creation
  • Work closely with Engineering and Content teams to ensure data is stored and managed in a way that enables platform functionality and efficient analysis
  • Continuously improve and automate extraction and maintenance of data
  • Understand, own and improve Machine Learning models that analyse carbon credit ratings

 

Our ideal candidate will have: 

  • 1-2 years experience working in a data management or data science role
  • The ability to work effectively under pressure within a fast-growing company
  • Experience scraping and transforming data, and managing and maintaining large data sets
  • Experience translating business needs across technology, product and content into data solutions
  • Experience with statistical software (Python, R).
  • Experience with document and relational databases (Postgres).
  • Some experience building machine learning models
  • Preferred: An understanding of Carbon Accounting and / or voluntary carbon markets
  • Preferred: Experience in natural language processing.
