Lead Scaleup Engineer

Job Brief
You will be responsible for scaling one of the most exciting technologies in the clean tech space today. You will lead the scale-up of coating process and equipment for fabrication of our novel membrane electrode assembly (MEA), a core component of our electrolyzer that converts waste carbon dioxide to valuable compounds.

In this role, you will lead a team and work cross-functionally to design process flow, select equipment and layout, commission fabrication tools, transfer, scale and optimize existing processes.
What you will do:

Scale-up project management:

• Effectively lead projects to identify thin layer coating equipment and process flow optimization for at scale, high throughput, high quality performance electrode fabrication
• Lead communications with contract manufacturers to implement design & build of large-scale fabrication production line
• Run process cost analysis and iterate production line strategy to maximize yield rates and minimize scrap rates

Cross-functional project management:

• Leverage R&D team findings to scale up catalyst coating ink fabrication, storage and handling
• Implement process development team findings to identify and mitigate fabrication tool deficiencies
• Support the integration of quality control sampling methods & analytical procedures, feedback loops in production line
• Manage workflow for installation, commissioning, and tech transfer around new fabrication line equipment
• Identify and raise patentability opportunities in fabrication process, participate in documentation processes

Leadership:

• Manage, mentor, and grow a team of engineers, technicians, other junior or senior personnel to achieve project goals
• Provide comprehensive support and direction for leadership teams to align with company goals and timelines
• Work cross-functionally with facility engineers to identify of equipment facility needs
• Maintain safe working practices and contribute to company safety goals

Who you are:

• BSc or higher degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
• Significant experience in scaling up a coating process, industrial R&D, and implementation in fabrication environment
• Familiarity with MEA coating methods such as ultrasonic spray deposition, slot-die, or roll-to-roll coating
• Significant experience with Six Sigma methodology, process documentation, QMS
• Outstanding organization and communication/presentation skills
• Adept at working with cross-functional teams, subject matter experts and multiple stakeholders
