Physical and chemical characterization is a key part of understanding the materials in our system and key to making technical progress. As a Materials Characterization Engineer, you will be responsible for sample preparation, materials analysis, and communicating results to other team members to diagnose failure/decay mechanisms in our testing. In this role, you will work closely with senior characterization engineers as well as cross functionally with other members of the Chemistry team.

What You Will Do

  • Identify metal alloy contamination and perform trace metal analysis through ICP-MS
  • Develop the operation procedures, calibration standards and data analysis for ICP-MS samples
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of ICP-MS instrument
  • Independently perform materials characterization (such as XRD, XRF, SEM-EDS, etc.)
  • Perform sample preparation suitable for characterization tasks (standards preparation, dilutions, sample digestions, epoxy mounting)
  • Understand the working components of our electrolyzer system and each component’s material properties
  • Analyze characterization data, summarize results and share with the team
  • Carry out experiments independently after training
  • Maintain a safe and clean laboratory environment
