Job Brief

The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for designing an electrolysis cell stack for CO 2 reduction. This position will require close interaction with strategic partners, the Stack Engineering team and other cross functional team members to design, procure, build and test a prototype cell stack. The ideal candidate must be able to create and maintain 3D CAD assembly models, individual part models/drawings, and associated bills of materials. The role will require experience in GD&T and tolerance analyses. The candidate should be creative, self-motivated, detail oriented, and able to handle multiple project assignments within a fast-paced organization.

What you will do

  • Develop detailed designs for cell stack components with input from Stack Engineering team including catalyst coated membranes, bipolar plates, flow fields, gas diffusion layers, seals, etc.
  • Create and maintain top level assembly models, individual part drawings, and bills of materials
  • Conduct design reviews with cross functional team members
  • Perform concept down selects, tolerance stack-up analyses, and FMEA development
  • Coordinate design changes with multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Collaborate with suppliers of stack components

Who you are

  • BS or MS in mechanical engineering or related technical discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years of product development experience with relevant electrochemical cell stacks (ex. Flow batteries, fuel cells, electrolyzers)
  • Solid modeling experience (PTC Creo, SolidWorks, Inventor, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of ASME 14.5M-2009 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing specifications
  • Familiarity with modeling and verification of strain of various materials under compression at projected process conditions
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes including molding, machining, forming, and joining methods
