Job Brief

As a facilities project engineer you will be responsible for overseeing and improving the infrastructure for Twelve’s research and development facilities. You will manage systems essential to our CO2 electrolysis research. As the first point of contact for issues with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems you will lead planning and coordination of facility improvements as well as coordinate reactive diagnosis and repair. You will manage contractors and coordinate their work to minimize impacts on research operations. An ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of laboratory infrastructure and the ability to thrive in a dynamic research environment.

What you will do:

  • Manage and improve the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing infrastructure for Twelve’s existing R&D facilities
    • Work with R&D staff to refine utility and infrastructure requirements for new equipment and processes
    • Manage MEP subcontractors to improve and maintain infrastructure while minimizing impacts on research and development teams
    • Coordinate planned maintenance, investigate unplanned events and direct appropriate repairs and preventative improvements
    • Manage engineering documentation such as PFDs, P&IDs, architectural layouts and MEP as-built drawings
  • Support the selection, design, construction, and commissioning of new research, process development, and manufacturing facilities
    • Support technical evaluation of potential facilities and the selection and onboarding of design/build contractors
    • Work with technical leads to plan equipment and utilities for new lab and process areas
    • Generate design specifications as well as other engineering-related documentation to support facility and utility qualifications and commissioning
    • Work with design/build contractors to review documentation while soliciting and representing feedback from company stakeholders
    • Provide contractor feedback, direction and supervision as needed during construction and manage communication between contractors and relevant company stakeholders
    • Work with the internal operations team to manage necessary permits and approvals for occupancy

Who you are:

  • You have a Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering
  • You have 5+ years of experience as a project engineer or a similar role (ideally supporting a research organization)
  • You have knowledge of the construction process and principles, and familiarity with relevant regulations and building codes
  • You have demonstrated understanding of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, including and not limited to:
    • Commercial and industrial electrical distribution systems
    • High purity gas distribution
    • Clean dry air systems
    • Storage and transport of hazardous chemicals and gases
    • Fume hoods and other exhaust systems
    • Environmental control rooms and cleanrooms
  • You have excellent project management, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • You communicate clearly and proactively, and are adept at working with multiple stakeholders
