Job Description

EnergyHub empowers utilities and their customers to create a clean, distributed energy future. Our customers are real utilities managing the real electrical grid supporting the normal lives of millions of real people. Our mission is to keep the grid running reliably while enabling more renewables and less reliance on fossil fuel.

Our product engineering teams are growing rapidly and we need an additional Engineering Manager to help them stay organized and effective. We’re looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, can navigate ambiguity while keeping a project moving, and is motivated by building programs and processes that will scale as we grow.

Engineering Managers at EnergyHub are managers with direct reports who produce and maintain a significant portfolio within the software development organization. They do this through a set of responsibilities focused on people management, strategic alignment and software development practices.

What you will do

  • Build a diverse team and make sure they are treated equitably. Support them by including them in decision-making, and instilling a sense of ownership and impact.
  • Help the team continue to grow their skills and responsibilities through coaching and finding growth opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with Product and others to define the team’s mission, vision, and roadmap.
  • Make sound decisions around resourcing, and make the rationale clear to partners and team members.
  • Support sustainable, high-quality execution via a variety of organizational, process-oriented, and technical levers. Keep raising the bar!

What we look for

At EnergyHub we care about your passion and how you can contribute to our mission, not about the schools and companies on your resume.

This is not a list of requirements and we certainly don’t expect that you need to hit every bullet point to be a great candidate or great in the role. However, these things will catch our eye and demonstrate many of the core skills needed.

  • Core technical knowledge and experience with some of the tools and technologies at EnergyHub. These include Java, Spring, Python, JavaScript, React, AWS (EC2, ECS), MongoDB, and Postgres.
  • Several years professional experience developing software.
  • Demonstrated experience managing the work of others in developing and deploying software. Experience in a significant team lead role is required, experience managing multiple teams is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within an existing code base.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in growing the careers of others.
  • Demonstrated ability to recover from failure as a technical leader.
  • Demonstrated experience managing diverse software development teams.
  • Experience leading effectively within a 50-75 person company.
  • Demonstrated tactical experience producing quality software in an early to mid stage organization.
