Job Description

The Scrum Master plays a key role in ensuring and helping teams meet their commitments using Agile methods. The Scrum Master will guide the teams to work using Agile Principles, remove impediments for the team and foster self-organization with the teams.  The Scrum Master will act as a mentor to the team in various areas of Agile.

The Scrum Master is responsible for coaching, training and mentoring Product Owners, Technical leads, Team Leads, QA leads and Directors to leverage Agile and Scaled Agile principles, practices and frameworks in order to deliver high value business capabilities. You will serve as a subject matter expert on introducing agile and scaling agile across your team and the rest of the product organization where possible. Our Scrum Master will embrace servant leadership and display behaviours that come with the key mindset shifts associated with being agile. The Scrum Master serves as a driving force for Agile methodology throughout the organization identifying new areas where Agile will improve business outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Work as a servant leader with assigned teams
  • Continuously contribute to the review, update and delivery of the Agile Transformation roadmap aligned to business need
  • Serve as the subject matter expert to instil a culture of measurement with respect to both the impact of the change to the business and the effectiveness of the system of delivery
  • Work with teams to assist them in implementing and improving their Agile practices
  • Facilitate and/or witness team meetings – Planning, Stand-ups, and Retrospectives
  • Provide support to team members, Product Owners, and business stakeholders
  • Ensure software development lifecycle processes are followed and support continuous improvements
  • Ensure business processes are inspected and adapted accordingly
  • Ensure that the team’s progress is updated daily through the team’s status board to provide visibility to the organization
  • Promote a collaborative team environment that fosters creativity, innovation, transparency, and self-organization.
  • Promote continuous improvement to help teams increase productivity and nurture innovation
  • Stand up new teams, including providing interactive Agile and ongoing coaching and training where necessary    
  • Assess the Agile maturity of the team(s) and coach to higher levels of maturity, at a pace that is sustainable     
  • Facilitate workshop training on our Agile framework, principles & methods
  • Coach teams on how to remove complex roadblocks and impediments to change and delivery
  • Drive continuous improvement through transparency, balance, flow, respect, customer focus, collaboration, and agreement 
  • Proactively collaborate and communicate with internal and external stakeholders to address Agile knowledge gaps to support Agile effectiveness
  • Identify and direct the implementation of process improvements that significantly improve quality across the team, department and business
  • Provide subject matter expertise to team members and applicable stakeholders on complex projects for assigned areas of responsibility
  • Work with the broader group of Scrum Masters and Scrum Masters to foster an Agile Community of Practice

About You and How You Can Excel in This Role

You must be a self-starter who is energized by a challenge, passionate about bringing great products to market and love the thrill of creating a new standard for what’s possible. A degree level education is heavily preferred, with relevant Agile professional certifications expected, such as Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Certified SAFe Agilist, Professional Scrum Master (PSM). Other relevant professional certifications in the agile product delivery space are also much desired such as Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO).

Skillset

  • Good experience working directly with Agile teams on projects as an Agile Team Coach or Scrum Master in a digital product development environment helping teams efficiently deliver software
  • An Agile certification is expected for this role e.g. Certified Scrum Master (CSM)
  • A scaled agile certification and experience of implementing scaling Agile in an enterprise is desirable
  • Experience of delivering Agile training and facilitation across teams and stakeholders 
  • Experience in presenting and discussing to a large audience, including Associate to Senior Engineers, Architects, Directors and VPs
  • Experience working with Agile software development methods; Continuous Integration, Test Driven Development, Continuous Delivery, Pair Programming
  • Familiarity with the product development lifecycle for enterprise SaaS products
  • Ability to understand complex issues quickly to identify value streams and slices
  • Understands Scrum and Agile Methodologies and applications
  • Demonstrates strong facilitation and presentation skills in leading planning meetings, reviews, and retrospectives
  • Can successfully work independently with limited supervision and with other department personnel in a time-sensitive work environment
  • Possesses strong time and priority management skills
  • Has excellent verbal, written, and listening abilities
  • Is a team player with strong team building skills
  • Uses collaboration in driving decisions
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills to work with diverse personalities
  • Is self-motivated as well as creative and efficient in proposing solutions to complex, time-critical problems
  • Has a “do-what-it-takes” attitude in a start-up environment

  • Experience with Agile ALM tools such as JIRA.
