Job Description
Our Team
This role sits within ERM's Business Process & Applications (BP&A) team. BP&A’s focus is internal facing, meaning we do not interact directly with ERM's clients. The primary responsibility of our team is business process management, which involves the global streamlining of the firm's operations.
In our role, we review and define various business processes across all activities within the firm. For example, we have processes covering everything from initial client contact by partners to drafting proposals for new projects, and the subsequent delivery of successful projects. Our objective is to identify inefficiencies and deploy IT systems that enhance the work of our consultants and improve outcomes for our clients. To achieve this, a comprehensive understanding of ERM's services and the experiences of those delivering them is essential, alongside knowledge of the corporate structure and global sustainability policies, which can be quite complex.
Your Role
The successful candidate would be a member of BP&A team. Although some tasks may be self-directed, we will work closely with you to ensure you feel supported before working independently. We will have regular check-ins—starting daily and transitioning to every other day or weekly as needed—to discuss your progress. While schedules can be demanding, we will communicate any constraints in advance, and you may reach out to my colleagues if needed. Our goal is to integrate you into the team's activities and provide opportunities to engage with various stakeholders during your internship.
Outline of role and responsibilities:
- Process Review: The BP&A team has previously undertaken a comprehensive project to map ERM's processes globally. Your primary responsibility will be to review these existing processes and identify any changes or gaps that need to be addressed. The outcome should be a document that outlines the current status of this initiative and provides recommendations for moving forward. This will offer you a thorough overview of ERM's business model, and I will be available to guide you throughout the process. This is an important initiative for our team, and we are committed to supporting your learning experience, which will be beneficial for anyone interested in environmental or sustainability consulting.
- Process Mapping: Depending on the duration of the initial review, you may also have the opportunity to attend subsequent process mapping sessions. If time allows, I would like you to participate in workshops and take notes during discussions, as the details can be intricate and challenging to capture while facilitating.
- Daily/Weekly Team Calls: You will be required to attend our weekly team meetings, which serve as a platform for identifying risks and seeking assistance. These meetings will give you insight into the work of the BP&A team and present an opportunity for you to develop public speaking skills if you wish to contribute.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Though less formal, I encourage you to attend periodic meetings where I interact with key business stakeholders to discuss new projects. Observing these conversations will help you develop networking skills, and we will have debrief sessions afterward to reflect on the discussions.
- Ad-Hoc Tasks: The nature of BP&A's work is dynamic, and you may occasionally assist with unanticipated tasks as they arise. However, please rest assured that these won't involve menial tasks, such as running errands.
Please note that this role is primarily focused on internal IT processes and business management and is not directly related to environmental science. Our company is dedicated to environmental initiatives, but the position itself revolves around business process
