First Light Solutions is a stealth AI start-up pushing the boundaries of materials discovery. We leverage advanced AI models and proprietary datasets to accelerate the discovery of low-cost, high-performing sorbents used for gas separations in the chemicals, energy, and carbon-capture industries. Despite being pre-seed, we have already been awarded a prestigious Department of Energy grant and have brought on a panel of experienced advisors from Exxon, Heirloom, and UC Davis.

First Light was co-founded by a former BCG consultant, an MIT postdoc and a Georgia Tech engineer. We are looking for a founding CEO who can lead our pre-seed fundraising round and form licensing agreements with our first commercial partners. The CEO will report to First Light's Board of Directors and be responsible for:

  • Shaping and executing the company's strategy encompassing R&D, engineering and commercials;

  • Forming commercial and strategic partnerships with chemicals manufacturers, carbon-capture technology providers, and laboratories in order to deliver on the company's strategy;

  • Negotiating IP agreements with laboratories and other research partners;

  • Negotiating licensing and other commercial agreements to monetize First Light's IP and products;

  • Fundraising from venture capital and non-dilutive (i.e. grant/foundation) sources to ensure continued runway; and

  • Representing the company externally at conferences and in industry membership bodies.

This is a significant opportunity to shape and grow an early-stage start-up working at the forefront of AI technology. Role can be fully remote within the US and will consist of 25% company ownership alongside a salary that progressively increases with company maturity. The ideal candidate will have some foundational knowledge of computational science and/or materials science, prior start-up experience, and strong commercial acumen.
