Job Description

Position Overview

Redwood seeks an early- to mid-career communications practitioner with experience in and a passion for climate tech, clean energy and/or sustainability to join its small but growing team.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum two years of experience working in strategic communications, public relations, marketing or a related field, in-house or with an agency
  • Demonstrated interest in and experience with climate tech companies, nonprofit organizations, industry groups, or related organizations
  • Basic understanding of clean energy technologies and climate tech sectors (e.g. electric vehicles, solar, wind, energy efficiency, distributed energy resource management, grid optimization/grid services, energy storage)
  • Interest in and attentiveness to news and influencers in the climate tech space
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Excellent organizational capabilities 
  • Natural ability to think critically and analytically 
  • Collaborative team player with innate curiosity, a desire to learn new things and willingness to take on new challenges
  • Desire to get into an exciting new organization and help it grow

Preferred Qualifications

  • Media relations experience and ability to pitch clients’ stories to reporters, editors and producers in an efficient and effective manner
  • Client-facing experience at a professional services organization working with multiple clients at once
  • Academic background (bachelor’s or advanced degree) in environmental studies, policy, marketing, public affairs, public relations and/or communications

Responsibilities

  • Project management and administrative duties: assigning tasks, tracking deadlines, scheduling meetings and coordinating activities
  • Client services: meet regularly with clients, respond to client requests and represent client interests internally and to third parties
  • Media and analyst relations: perform thoughtful and strategic outreach to climate tech journalists, editors, producers and industry analysts working in related fields
  • Writing and editing: draft, review and edit written materials for clients (e.g. press releases, blog posts, opinion articles, social media content)
  • Flexibility: be ready and willing to take on unexpected tasks and responsibilities to benefit clients and/or the firm

Salary and Benefits

  • This is a permanent, full-time position
  • The salary range for this position is up to $75,000, dependent on experience
