ABOUT THE TEAM
The World Data Lab Team is based in Nairobi, Kenya, where a passionate group of data enthusiasts leads our regional initiatives. We also have team members located in Kigali, Rwanda closely collaborating across the borders. Due to our expanding collaborations and efforts in Africa, company is currently expanding our team also in the West region.
  
The Africa Data Team focuses on addressing youth employment challenges in the continent. In collaboration with the Mastercard Foundation, we created the Africa Youth Employment Clock (africayouthjobs.io), which provides an in-depth view of the labor market for young people. The tool tracks key metrics such as employment, unemployment, student status, and inactivity, along with forecasts and regional insights to highlight youth employment trends across the continent.
Additionally, our Africa data Team works closely with the global team on projects like consumer spending analysis and other important economic research. By using advanced data methodologies, we aim to improve decision-making and create meaningful impact across Africa and beyond. ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Data Insights Specialist in our Data Team based in Africa, you will be supporting the Mastercard Foundation partnership by coordinating insights generation and dissemination activities. Oversee the Africa Youth Jobs Outlook Report, manage blogs, webinars, and other outreach efforts, ensuring stakeholders are engaged with impactful insights that align with the goal of employing 30 million African youth by 2030. You will be responsible for generating actionable insights, managing impactful publications, and ensuring the dissemination of data-driven findings to stakeholders. You will play a pivotal role in advancing the Mastercard Foundation’s goal of creating 30 million meaningful jobs for African youth by 2030 through thought leadership and engaging content. Due to our team set up, we prefer this position to be located in Nairobi, Kenya. THE CHALLENGE
Data Visualization and Reporting:
  • Translate complex datasets into actionable insights using compelling visuals, dashboards, and infographics.
  • Ensure findings are accessible and understandable to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Insights Development and Thought Leadership:
  • Lead the production of the biannual Africa Jobs Outlook Report, ensuring high-quality, data-driven insights tailored to policymakers, private sector leaders, and development partners.
  • Create and publish blogs, social media posts, and articles that highlight trends and progress in youth employment across Africa.
  • Coordinate and manage quarterly webinars to share key findings, foster stakeholder dialogue, and advance thought leadership on labor market trends.
Stakeholder Engagement and Communication:
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams to ensure alignment of insights with stakeholder needs.
  • Support client pitches and presentations by providing tailored data and insights that address specific challenges.
  • Coordination and Quality Assurance:
  • Manage timelines and workflows for key deliverables, including reports, blogs, and events, ensuring high-quality outputs.
  • Ensure consistency and rigor in the presentation of insights, maintaining WDL’s reputation for excellence.
YOUR PROFILE
Required:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Communications, Economics, Data Science, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in insights generation, client engagement.
  • Proven expe rience managing publications, blogs, webinars, or similar dissemination activities.
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) and presentation software (e.g., PowerPoint).
  • Strong writing and editing skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Familiarity with data storytelling and the ability to draw actionable insights from complex datasets.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong project management skills, including managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Creative thinker with a proactive approach to problem-solving and innovation.
  • Fluent in English as company communication language
  • Knowledge of labor market dynamics and youth employment challenges in Africa.
  • Experience working in international development or with large-scale initiatives.
Nice-to-have:
  • Fluency in French, particularly for stakeholder engagement in West Africa.
  • Previous leadership experience
