Job Description

Twelve is a new kind of chemical company built for the climate era. Our breakthrough technology eliminates emissions by turning CO2 into essential products. We are a team of scientists, engineers and problem solvers on a mission to fundamentally shift the way the world addresses climate change and lead the transition to a fossil free future with our carbon transformation technology.

The Chemistry team works to develop novel materials and characterization methods that are building blocks to our CO2 electrolyzer. We are a team of chemists, materials scientists, and chemical engineers that work cross functionally to provide materials design solutions that greatly improve the performance of our electrolyzer system. The team is currently seeking to grow its capabilities in synthesis and characterization.

Job Brief

Physical and chemical characterization is a key part of understanding the materials in our system and key to making technical progress. You will be responsible for sample preparation, materials analysis, and communicating results to other team members to diagnose failure/decay mechanisms in our testing. In this role, you will work closely with senior characterization engineers as well as cross functionally with other members of the Chemistry team.

What You Will Do

  • Identify metal alloy contamination and perform trace metal analysis through ICP-MS and perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Develop the operation procedures, calibration standards and data analysis for ICP-MS samples
  • Perform sample preparation suitable for characterization tasks (standards preparation, dilutions, sample digestions, epoxy mounting)
  • Analyze characterization data, summarize results and share with the team
  • Develop and train other team members on standard operating procedures

Who You Are

  • B.S. or higher in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or a related field
  • Experienced in operation of ICP equipment and sample preparation
  • Hands-on work experience in a wet lab including strong acid handling and sample preparation/digestion
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to organize, summarize, and present results effectively
  • Self-motivated and able to work autonomously with minimal supervision

Twelve Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Paid sick days and vacation
  • Competitive salary and equity compensation commensurate with experience
  • Diverse and inclusive work environment
