Unionized Skilled Labourer – Seasonal Full-Time – Residential Excavation and Construction

GFL Environmental is looking for skilled Labourers to be based out of our location at 219 Industrial Park Crescent, Sault Ste. Marie to support the 2025 construction season. 

The Unionized Labourer is responsible for safely and efficiently performing general and skilled labour duties to support our residential excavation division. 

Responsibilities mainly include supporting heavy equipment operators with excavation services.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supporting heavy equipment operation.

• Operating motor and hand powered equipment such as plate tampers, chain saws, pumps, rakes, shovels, etc.

• Establishing grade depths.

• Installing sewer and water infrastructure.

• Directing heavy vehicles and traffic.

• Fueling onsite equipment.

• Organizing jobsites and cleaning company assets.

• Performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) desired but not required.

• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test.

• Valid G License

• Must work in a safe manner aligning with our Safe For Life policies.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to read, write, perform basic mathematical calculation and communicate with others.

• Ability to follow instructions and perform duties under limited supervision.

• Ability to operate equipment necessary to perform job.

• Ability to apply common reasoning to solve general problems.

Physical/Mental Demands:

• Must be able to stand, walk, bend, reach and lift in an outdoor environment 90% of the time.

• Must be able to use hands and fingers, kneel, crawl, talk, hear, climb and balance.

• Visual requirements: include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

• Ability to manually lift/move up to 65 pounds regularly.

• Ability to manually push/move up to 100 pounds with assistance from other employees.

Working Conditions:

•  Frequently exposed to loud noise, humidity, rainy/stormy, extreme hot and cold weather
  conditions (depending upon season), moving mechanical parts, vibrations, toxic and caustic chemicals, fumes and airborne particles

• Work in outdoor environment up to 100% of the time.

• Works route away from branch location on a continuous basis throughout the day.

• Occasionally work in high precarious places

• Work in motor vehicle traffic conditions constantly.

• Work environment is normally loud.
