Summary of the position:

The Materials & Production Supervisor oversees warehouse operations and production operations to ensure that all incoming and outgoing inventory is manufactured and processed for Hitachi Global Air Power US, LLC (HGAP).  Responsible to lead a team of material handlers to support all warehouse operations, material storage and material flow within the facility to ensure manufacturing lines receive the correct material when needed.  Also responsible to lead a team of production employees in the manufacturing of HGAP products.  Focus should equate to 80% on Warehouse Operations and 20% on Production Operations, with proper communication and escalation of production opportunities.

This position is located at a Hitachi Global Air Power warehouse and manufacturing plant in Michigan City, Indiana, and reports to the Director of Materials Management.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Safety – Promote & Lead a safety-oriented culture within the facility
  • KPIs – Drive accountabilities within the team to improve KPIs, such as warehouse part shortages to production, Production Lead Time and Customer On-Time Delivery
  • Inventory Accuracy – Ensure all warehouse and production operations are supporting all inventory accuracy policies and standard work, leading to improved and sustained inventory accuracy targets
  • Leadership – Provide strong leadership to all team members, including training/cross-training, coaching, and accountability

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Promote and drive a safety-first culture, with a focus on near miss reporting, root cause analysis for both behavioral and environmental aspects, and irreversible corrective actions.  Oversee proactive audits for discoveries of potential safety-related issues.
  • Lead team members for all warehouse operations, shipping and receiving, material handling, and storage throughout manufacturing and the warehouse facility to ensure production schedules and customer delivery demands are met.
  • Drive team member transactional discipline to improve and sustain inventory accuracy.  Conduct process audits to ensure compliance. 
  • Process all invoice discrepancies and coordinate activities for quality-related processes, such as Return-to-Vendor shipments, Scrap processing and Quality Notifications.
  • Lead outbound team to prepare materials for shipping, communicating with Traffic, to meet OTD targets.  Communicate and escalate opportunities to appropriate departments & resources.
  • Coordinate activities with production, purchasing, engineering, planning, and quality departments to resolve warehouse material shortages and supplier material shortages.
  • Lead production team members to achieve daily production targets, while communicating and escalating critical items
  • Foster a continuous improvement and lean manufacturing mindset and culture to lead initiatives to improve processes, material flow, and SAP functionality / maintenance.
  • Maintain balanced workloads by shifting assignments, workers and other resources under own control to achieve the most effective material handling, material processing, and production operations.
  • Adjust plans, assignments, and methods as necessary to accomplish the work effectively and economically.
  • Provide weekly schedules for direct reports, including starting/ending times, as well as overtime hours.
  • Monitor overtime hours to stay within budget while maintaining adequate coverage to support operations.
  • Hold direct reports accountable to uphold HGAP values and policies; issue discipline as required in conjunction with the Human Resource Department.
  • Maintain skills matrix, work center instructions and training matrix for effective development of hourly staff.  Coach & mentor team leaders to elevate capacity, capability and to effectively coach and mentor hourly staff. 

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Management, Supply Chain Management, Logistics or related field;
    or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Material Management certification, such as CPIM, CSCP, CLTD, and CLT, a plus

Professional experience:

  • 3-5+ years of supervisory/lead experience, within the Warehouse Operations space; Production experience a plus
  • Working knowledge of Inventory Control Software (SAP S4 Hana / eWM preferred)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, with preferred experience developing spreadsheets and tools for effective data analysis and communications
  • Working knowledge of additional Microsoft tools (Teams, PowerPoint, Word, Access)

Physical requirements:

  • Lifting up to 35 lbs, lifting over 35 lbs. requires a lifting device, crane, or assistance from another associate
  • Standing and walking minimum of 8 hours, must be able to bend/stoop, squat/crouch, kneel and twist
  • Must understand and comply with HGAP Safety Standards

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, talk, and/or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, sit, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
