Do you have a background in energy data analytics and are excited about data modernization and innovation? California Energy Commission (CEC) is hiring a Power Data Analytics Unit Supervisor to lead a technical team conducting research and analysis on energy resources in support of California’s clean energy goals.

This opportunity is a Program and Project Supervisor, PUC state classification in the Power Data Analytics Unit (PDAU) of the Data Integration Branch (DIB) within the Energy Assessments Division (EAD). The PDAU leads the public transparency program that provides energy generation resource types and GHG information associated with the electricity serving California customers.

Our Power Data Analytics Unit Supervisor will provide technical oversight for a team of professional staff and subject-matter experts implementing the Power Source Disclosure (PSD) program, Quarterly Fuels & Energy Reporting (QFER) regulations, and the Emissions Performance Standards program.


Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience in supervising a technical program with multiple subject areas and subject matter staff, especially in times of organizational change.  

  • A broad understanding of the state’s energy policies, and their impact on energy demand and the state’s electricity system. 

  • Proficiency on a personal computer and experience with spreadsheet and/or database software, such as Microsoft Excel, SQL, Snowflake, Access.

  • Experience in developing and implementing program goals as required by regulations and legislation.

  • Experience in rulemaking process as it relates to the Office of Administrative Law. 

  • Solid experience with project planning and management techniques.  

  • Ability to build a team and direct, motivate, and earn the respect of staff. 

  • Ability to manage and resolve conflict, and to productively collaborate and exchange ideas with individuals whose analysis may represent difficult conclusions or contrary opinion. 

  • Ability to professionally represent the Division in meetings and workshops with agencies, interest groups/public as well as public meetings, and hearings. 

  • Ability to effectively write, review, and edit technical program information.

  • Ability to gather, compile, analyze, interpret and communicate written and numerical research data.  

  

** Telework option is available, but hired candidate must reside in California before starting.
