Job Summary:

The Network Engineer role is essential for sustaining the day-to-day operations of our network environment. This Tier 2 or above position requires comprehensive grasp of core networking fundamentals, troubleshooting skills, and the ability to architect solutions for organizational improvement. The role involves hands-on work in WAN/LAN network administration, virtualization, enterprise wireless, cloud networking, business continuity/disaster recovery, and performance tuning/monitoring. The role’s duties include Handling the day-to-day maintenance of network infrastructure and troubleshoot issues at a Tier 2 level or above; using their IT knowledge to develop company networks, coordinating with company leadership to identify network needs, and providing assistance to employees and other individuals on effective network usage. Additional tasks will include, but are not limited to, assisting in selection of appropriate network solutions, use of various networking appliances, topology software and devices as well as collaboration on certain documents for the purpose of NERC based regulatory requirements. Creation and updating of Network documentation. The position will work closely with the entire IT department, our Operation Control Center, Technical Service Division supporting our Data Analytics team, SCADA engineers and Ignition access control system to various plants and sites across the nation. Travel may be required during project design, repower / reconfiguration of various environments, and new site deployments. 

Responsibilities:

•    Provides telephone, electronic or in person Level 1-3 technical support for the determination and resolution or escalation of basic, advanced, and expert technical problems related to network infrastructure and communications. 

•    Installing and configuring various networking equipment

•    Maintaining computer networks including various appliances, firewalls, switches, wireless access points, VPNs, routers, and other physical hardware.

•    Creating and updating firewall policies and data security systems to keep data and communications protected.

•    Troubleshooting, resolving, and communicating networking issues to other employees and management.

•    Maintaining and improving current knowledge and understanding of security and networking best practices to offer the best solutions and protection to company systems.

•    Work closely with the network architect and team to determine future network needs and plan for network changes.

•    Perform discovery, develop and document methods and tools to be used to test and implement new LAN/WAN structure and or equipment.

•    Troubleshoots problems using remote control products, where possible, and documents all services provided along with resolution into our ticketing system.

•    Document solutions to tasks to create and maintain knowledgebase.

•    Uses effective verbal and written communications when dealing with customers.

•    Invokes proper escalation procedures when required to coordinate resolution of issues.

•    Learns and thoroughly understands the Leeward technical environment while maintaining competency and enhancing professional growth and development through continuing education and conferences.

•    Works closely and effectively with other IT technical staff and management.

•    Performs all duties as required.

•    Has experience working in an OT environment, preferably in energy generation, or manufacturing, or pharmaceuticals.

•    Has experience using Nozomi, FortiManager, Aruba Central, OPmanager or other network monitoring systems.

Qualifications & Experience :

•    Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or MIS, or 6+ years equivalent work or military experience

•    Strong preference will be given to those with relevant network certifications.

•    Ability to create, present and maintain network topology content with cadence. 

•    Experience with Fortinet equipment and solutions.

•    Experience with Aruba equipment and solutions.

•    Experience with Meraki and Cisco equipment and solutions.

•    Experience with Hirschmann equipment and solutions.

•    Experience with Nozomi equipment and solutions.

•    Experience with FortiManager, Aruba Central, OPmanager or other Network Monitor applications/systems.

•    Experience in a regulated organization greatly valued. 

•    NERC and/or experience in the energy sector greatly valued.

•    Experience working in an IT/OT environment.

•    Experience with OSPF, BGP, VLANS, SDWAN

•    Experience creating and maintaining Firewall Policies. 

•    Experience creating and maintaining PPTP,  L2TP, SSH, VPN including B2B & ADVPN, and GRE Tunnels.

•    Able to work independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment with the desire to better the environment.  

•    Analytical and problem-solving abilities, with keen attention to detail.

•    Ability to conduct research with an analytical mindset and disposition towards resolution and document findings.

•    Effective interpersonal skills and relationship-building skill.

•    Strong written and oral communication skills.

•    Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.

•    Understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.

•    Self-motivated with the ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks under pressure.

•    Strong customer-service orientation.

•    Driver’s license in good standing.

Physical Demands:

•    On-call availability for minimum of 10 days per month

•    Hybrid work environment, after an onboarding period, with minimum of 3-day onsite work week

•    Sitting/standing for extended periods of time
