Applied Carbon seeks an experienced Control Systems Engineer to develop and integrate industrial control systems, with experience using Siemens automation platforms. This role combines hands-on technical leadership with system architecture responsibilities in our fast-paced industrial environment.

Core Responsibilities

  • Design and implement control systems for high-temperature industrial equipment
  • Lead electrical and control system architecture development
  • Create and maintain electrical schematics, P&IDs, and product documentation
  • Commission and troubleshoot systems at client sites
  • Mentor junior engineers and coordinate with cross-functional teams
  • Test and validate system performance and ensure safety compliance

This position requires occasional travel within the US for system commissioning and troubleshooting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Control Systems, or related Engineering field
  • 7+ years of industrial control systems engineering experience
  • 4+ years of experience with Siemens automation platforms, including:
    • Simatic PLCs and TIA Portal
    • Industrial networking, communications, and data collection
  • Proven expertise in the design and delivery of end-to-end industrial control solutions
  • Creating and using Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams
  • Delivering advanced control automation, using tools such as PID, MPC, and Adaptive Control  
  • Sensor and actuator specifications, selection, and integration
  • Inclusion of safety systems with knowledge of local and national codes
  • Electrical system design and troubleshooting
  • HMI, control panel, and user interface development and documentation
  • Field integration, testing, training, and product commissioning
  • Authorized to work in the USA for any employer

Preferred Qualifications/Skills

  • Experience with high-temperature process control (gasification, pyrolysis, or similar)
  • Delivery of comprehensive control finished products using the Siemens SIMATIC PLC TIA S7 1200/1500 series as the primary platform
  • Industrial communication protocols (Profinet, Modbus, CAN_bus, EtherNet/IP)
  • Machine safety standards, industry codes and requirements, and implementation 
  • MATLAB/Simulink for system modeling and simulations
  • Integration within a connected SCADA systems environment 
  • Project management
