Purpose of the Role:


Reporting to the Manager, Accounting Operations, you'll be responsible for day-to-day payroll operations and functions. You'll support members of the payroll team, and collaborate with other team members in Finance, People and Culture, other Corporate Services teams, and with employees & managers.


Required Skills and Qualifications:


  • You have a minimum of 5 years experience in preparing payroll and overseeing payroll processes.
  • You have experience with full cycle payroll for hourly and salaried employees in the USA and Canada.
  • You have a post-secondary education in a related field in Business, Accounting, Finance, or the equivalent experience.
  • You have a comprehensive understanding of best practices and relevant legislation.
  • You have proven ability in providing guidance on new regions and jurisdictions (i.e. various US States).

 

Bonus Skills and Qualifications:


  • You are a registered Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP), or are working towards achieving this.


What Success looks like in this role:


  • You'll ensure timely processing of bi-monthly pay periods. Reviewing for accuracy and providing backup.
  • You will prepare and process monthly RRSP and 401K enrolments, remittances and employee queries.
  • You'll meet with, and provide feedback to employees to identify efficiencies and areas for improvement in the payroll process.
  • You'll develop and implement payroll controls and procedures to mitigate risk and improve processes.
  • You'll identify legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting payroll functions and ensures policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance.
  • You will be responsible for timely remittance and reporting of statutory contributions in compliance with regulations and requirements.
  • You will work with People & Culture on tasks and duties to ensure seamless sharing of information, providing reports and other information as needed.
  • You'll analyze, compile, and report payroll and timesheet data to support business needs.
